Betfair trading | A simple trade explained in depth

Here is a Betfair trade that I did recently while tutoring somebody. It’s not a very big trade, it’s tiny actually.

But that’s not important, what is more important is the description I am giving as the trade is underway. I’m carefully pointing out key aspects in the market and showing the detail.

That includes an entry point, an exit point and managing the trade with open positions.

This Betfair trading at quite a small level. But it would be perfectly possible to use larger stakes on this trade, but I’m leaving that decision up to the person who is trading. I’m just guiding them in and out of the market.

  1. This is one of the clearest videos I have seen with regards the mechanics of using the interface. Picture paints a thousand words.

  2. When looking at the ladder, how do i know which horse odds will influence another horse odds.i underatand that when a price of a horse will go up or down ,then it has to be another horse whivh will move in the opposite.is there a way to determine that? Thanks

  3. Very interesting to see you coaching someone. As others have suggested this type of video is really helpful for those of us who are very new to this sort of thing.

  4. Hi Peter, someone told me that if you have two short-priced favourites, they will repel each other. One will drift and
one will steam, but if they are both being equally backed, then surely they will both steam?

  5. Peter, do the prices on Betfair stay in line with the bookies prices? If a shop took a lot of money on a horse and made the price drift, would Betfair's price move up as well? If it moved from, say 2.0 to 3.0 just to keep in line with the shops, what would happen to all the prices in between that were waiting to be matched?

  6. Good vid. Would you say , in general it's better to trade " before " the price moves in anticipation or " after " a price has moved first , then expecting a secondary move ? I hope that makes sense.

  7. Definitely for me your best video! Wish you could do more explaining why you've picked the horse you have and how you pick your entry and exit point.

  8. Hi Peter. Is it important to look at the jockeys and trainers involved in a race and make a note of their current form before deciding whether to make a trade? If so, where is the best place to get the information? Napchecker or Racing Post, I assume.

  9. Good video thank you. Peter would it be possible to develop some software that allows you to trade historical racing markets. This would be really useful for people who work and miss most of the racing. Im sure people would be willing to pay for it, I know I would.

  10. Excellent and very valuable video ! Thank you !
Probably the only video of this kind on youtube ! Would be great to have more of these.

  11. This is exactly the type of videos needed. Although you are great explaining your trades having you interact with someone "slower" makes your explanation more relatable to noobs. Wish you had referenced the exit strategy if it went bellow 3.85 after the second stake was matched. Please record the progress of that person's training/trading and make it a series 😉

  12. My thoughs when I saw this market were pretty much the same as Peter's, so I'll take it as a sign I'm improving.

On the other hand, not sure how useful the session was to the student. She didn't even seem to have the grasp of BA interface. Can't really focus on reading the market if you are struggling to back and lay.
