Today Qatar and Ecuador play each other in the first match of the FIFA 2022 World Cup. Despite the controversies surrounding the tournament the match will go ahead in Qatar so let’s preview it!
One thing to be aware of is that Qatar being the home nation should provide some optimism that they will outperform the lowly expectations.
Qatar have made a lot of non-nationals nationals just to play for their football team, the team is therefore made up of players better than would normally be expected for such a tiny country like Qatar.
Therefore, I cannot dismiss them as just another team here, they have been waiting for this moment for years and will give it their all today.
Ecaudor has some very good players (for some reason mainly playing for Brighton) but Qatar did play against Lazio recently so I guess they don’t mind playing club teams!
Joking aside on paper this should be an Ecuador win, they have much better players and are an improving footballing nation in recent years. It is not easy to qualify from South America and so just getting to the World Cup shows that they have good strengh.
One of the keys to how this match will play out will be the tempo, look for how quickly the game plays, will both sides sit back at the start of the match and try to play solid football?
Will Ecuador take some risks believing they are the better team and open the game up?

watched preview earlier had confidence in Ecuador -Freebet went for them to win and over 2.5 goals looking good but didn't get 3rd one but had offset the bet at betfair so still made profit – I was a bit worried after 1st goal was disallowed looked fine with comments been made about match at least it looked like it was a fair result
For me and as you’ve said, the teams won’t want to embarrass themselves and far more so Qatar to the point they feel they cannot allow it to happen is my thinking, and that’s backed up by all the pre-tournament corruption so i do not feel this will be an honest match.

I wouldn't touch this match with a barge pole. Given Qatar's history of bribery it wouldn't surprise me if the ref or some of the Equator players have been given some brown envelopes.
