ASMR 2.5 hrs Vintage Mechanical Calculator | Soft Spoken Math

Trying out a mechanical pinwheel calculator from early 1900s, and writing some math notes by hand. Demonstrate the basic operations: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, and also Square Root, to be able to solve a mathematical task, which includes some geography as well, while rambling soft spoken in a Swedish accent to help you focus, relax and sleep.

  1. Even if It was kind of a big number and another big number I feel like it would be faster to do it on paper😂

  2. I've been told that writing my journal on an IBM Selectric II was oddly pleasant to listen to. So much so, my family mentioned it to me saying they missed it.
Also to butter the crumpets of every 70's kid, show the class a slide rule. That's how the cool kids did their math.

  3. Was introduced to this video by someone I was in a conversation with on Discord. I love calculators and collect them, would love to have an old mechanical one like this but it probably would cost me one of my limbs to buy

  4. About the latitude and longitude :
The 0,0 coordinates are placed at the equator on the Greenwich meridian, which passes through Greenwich in London, England.
So positive longitudes are east of England, negative are west.
Positive latitude are in the northern hemisphere, while negatives are in the southern hemisphere.

  5. Kinda complicated to figure out how to work the machine but I'm sure once someone is proficient it's probably almost as easy as a regular calculator

  6. I thought I knew how this calculator worked, and then very quickly got lost, but it's still a really cool invention! It sounds kind of like the eye examination contraption they have you look through at the eye doctors. That was probably one of the first ASMR experiences I remember and I still love going to the optometrist because of that lol

SUCH a relaxing video and really interesting too!

  7. Analogue will always be centuries more advanced and impressive than digital because it directly showcases how gears and systems work into math perfectly, and of course how perfect math is.

  8. Loved this one. ^^ At first it seems more of a hassle than doing the math on paper, but with many calculations and especially divisions, you are certainly faster and more accurate.

  9. So I'm trying to sleep with his raspy voice here in montevideo and I start hearing he wants to calculate a distance from El Chuy

    Such random coincidence merited mentioning
