Betfair Chase | Tips & Preview with Andy Holding and Paddy Aspell

George Elek is joined by Andy Holding and The Betting Show debutant Paddy Aspell to preview this weekend’s racing, headlined by the Betfair Chase at Haydock.

The guys start by taking a look at the racing from Ascot with two Grade 2s on the card including the Coral Hurdle where Constitution Hill will grace us with his presence for the first time this season.

The pod starts with a look at the 1965 Chase. Paddy isn’t concerned by the barren spell of Venetia Williams and expects L’homme Presse to get the job done, currently at a best price of 4/7. Hitman has now been declared at both Ascot and Haydock but has been backed into 9/4 second favourite for the 1965.

Constitution Hill is a huge favourite in the Coral Hurdle at best odds of 1/4. Both Andy and Paddy are in agreement that he’s in a different league to the four rivals he’ll face.
Over at Haydock the Graduation Chase is Hitman’s other option for the weekend and he 4/7 for this one with Minella Drama, Erne River and Itchy Feet all declared too. The Handicap Hurdle looks set to be a competitive affair with 13 declared. Might I and Run For Oscar are the current market leaders at 4/1.

At 3pm it’s the Betfair Chase and the headline race on the card. A Plus Tard is looking to go back-to-back having won his third Grade 1 race here last year. He’ll line up against Protektorat, Eldorado Allen, Bristol De Mai and Frodon. At 4/7 the price has shortened slightly with a bit of money around for Haydock veteran Bristol De Mai who’s now 15/2.

The panel finish with a look at Sunday’s Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown where Sir Gerhard and Vauban have NOT been declared.

  1. Protektorat is not a Cheltenham horse he said,. Protektorat flew up run in paddy power chase last season, after easily winning aintree, trained for gold cup then ran 3rd,. Improving chaser and is a serious horse this season,. Wants soft ground and worse

  2. Edwardstone was better hurdler than boothill, edwardstone has won grade 1,s over fences already, boothill is still learning the ropes over fences,it went to pieces first time novice chase at Exeter last season, it won newton abbot this season, looks 2 horse race, thyme white won't get near boothill never mind edwardstone,so unless edwardstone needs race, edwardstone should win really

  3. Henderson don't do" numbers on the clock"mate, c,hill will win bar a fall,. Then get prepared for next race, then champion hurdle in March, it won't beat honeysuckle either,. Value is honeysuckle winning her hurdle races pre champion hurdle then back it at 3/1 in champion hurdle, let's hope c,hill easily wins tomorrow, then more value regarding honeysuckle.
