Betfair exchange | Betfair trading | Cross matching (xm) explained

Betfair cross matching explained.

When you place a bet on Betfair, the exchange mechanism places the other bets for you at the same time but on different selections on the reverse side of the book.

This process is called cross matching. This video shows you cross matching occurring when we place some bets in an illiquid market.

Cross matching is sometimes abbreviated to XM or cross market cross matching to XMXM

  1. Very few now, but Betfair switch it on or off without notification so you can't tell unless you use something like Bet Angel where you can display the market with or without cross matching.

  2. Betfair have gradually rolled out cross matching across most sports including horse racing. There is a slight rounding error in their favour so it's beneficial for them to do this. I'd have to confirm but I am pretty sure Betdaq have a similar process in place.

  3. Hi Peter, this is very interesting and something i was unaware of. Could i ask do horseracing markets on betfair also use this same cross matching process? also how about betdaq? do betdaq also use this same method of cross matching? thanks

  4. Had a detailed scan this morning, unfortunately I can't post links on videos, so if you can re-raise the thread in the forum I'll post it there.
