Betfair Exchange – Tips for finding the best betfair trading and betting markets

I collect a lot of data on individual markets and the structure that surrounds them.

I’m pretty obsessed with getting the best possible understanding of the Betfair betting exchange markets and that involves collecting a lot of data.

Collecting data allows me to define a profitable trading strategy, such as scalping, for example. You can’t create a no risk betting or trading strategy through just date, but it does give you a really deep insight into a betting market.

If you look at the sports betting arena, then the Betfair betting exchanges stands out as a Goliath.

Recently some of this data was posted to the Bet Angel forum. So I took a cut of the data and reviewed it.

This video explains some of the interesting information from this data. Various types of Betfair trading strategies has seen gambling turnover on Betfair ballon over the years, helped by Betfair trading software and that is reflected in this numbers.

  1. Dear Peter – If Cricket is getting this big why do not you Have videos on how to trade on cricket markets ? I shall love to see those videos .

  2. Hi Peter , just wanted to start off by saying , thank you so much for all your helpful knowledge through YouTube and website , i have been a long time follower and always appreciated your help.

I just have a small enquiry to ask , i was observing a horse racing event today (Southwell 1 ,1m4f ) . I was also watching the race in real time as well for the first time and i noticed that the market valued the lead runner (Thou swell) during in play at an odd at 30-40 , making it 5th out of 6 running horses. How can this be so? If the market is so efficient , why did it place such little value on a lead runner since the start to the end?

    Thanks Peter!

  3. Peter I spoke with a on course bookmaker in Sydney that fields greyhounds recently. He will lay his large bets to square his book on the exchange. Because he does not hold that much money he can only make wages each meeting. The on course money is low because there is no one at the meeting bar the trainers. The corporates sponsor most of the meeting looking for mug money to eventually end up on the casino area of the website. I will bet with the bookmaker on course and lay my own money on the exchange in front of him.

  4. Think cricket is the big one to watch. I'm sure the growth in the IPL over the last few years has helped the figures massively. There is some crazy money being matched on the IPL games. Can't wait for the IPL to start to give the cricket a try.

  5. Great stats, Pete, but you did not mention the amount of non-matched money. As a complete and utter guess, I wonder if non-matched money amounts to roughly the same as matched-pre-off money, say £200 billion? I am just trying to visualise a complete market picture.

  6. I was expecting to see darts as quite a high percentage for inplay bets. That you didn't mention it suggests it's less than horse racing (20%)? Is this right? Like tennis, darts is a one-player-v-one-player game and you'd expect lots of inplay betting. Same for snooker I guess. Any reason why these sports didn't feature in your inplay breakdown?
