Important information on trading Australian racing (You must watch this video) –

Forum Australian racing thread –

As I produce this video it’s Spring in Australia and that means we are building up to the big one, the Melbourne Cup and the spring racing carnival at Flemington.

But ahead of that evening racing returns to Moonee Valley and that can present opportunities for the Australian and UK based Betfair traders alike.

I’ve been Betfair trading on Australian races since 2006 and as the market has grown I’ve grown with it.

If you are in the UK you will need to get up in the middle of the night to trade it, but this time of year brings more racing and typically a couple of racing cards on a Friday evening.

This makes it perfect for trading in the morning UK time. So here is a simple trade at Moonee Valley.

So with this in mind, here is a simple trade at Moonee Valley, Melbourne.

  1. Thanks Peter, I have seen a fair few of your videos and this is right up there as one of the very best for me in terms of being able to follow and understand what you are doing (the extra visualisations really help!) What a shame it was voided! Do you know if Oz Betfair users will be participating in the same market as UK Betfair users, or if you are using the UK service are you reliant on enough UK funds coming in?

I appreciate you don't want to dwell too long on a loss, but it would be very interesting to see this same kind of scenario but where the price moves against you, and how you then manage the exit.
    All the best!

  2. Note that Daylight Saving has started in most States in Oz. An hour earlier for Moonee Valley and Canterbury (when it starts).

  3. I appreciate your content, but the background noise at the beginning (radio?) was too loud and annoying … keep up the good work 🙂

  4. Peter, I notice your main focus on factors affecting your trade was second favourite activity. How much attention do you normally give to third/fourth favourites in this type of trade? Thanks, another valued video.

  5. The beautiful irony is that I had stayed up all night here in Melbourne to trade the UK markets last night and watched this video at 0400 AEST -_-

You asked at the end if this video was useful, and I would ask "What specifically would you say is different in terms of how you traded this race versus a UK race"? You mention the smaller volumes and thus the lower speed. Anything else?

I felt that there was an elegance to this trade – things just seemed to fall into place at the best moments, so I'm sorry it was voided!

  6. As a newbie to trading, moving over from matched betting, I am impressed with the quantity and quality of your videos on you tube and in the Bet Angel Academy. Your explinations of your decision making process are clear where as a lot of others show the mechanics of the trade but do not expand on why they are taking those steps.

  7. @buckshotgeorge – Never managed to answer your query before the chart ran out. Yes, no courses at the moment for obvious reasons.
