Betfair Trading Beginners Guide | Top Tips from a Professional trader

As a professional trader, I’ve often given advice to people who are learning to use the Betfair betting exchange or making the step up from match betting to Betfair trading.

There are many pitfalls when you start trading and this leads to a lot of people giving up before they have actually learned what their true objective is. People also waste a lot of time trying many different Betfair trading strategies.

I’ve often made recommendations on each of these suggestions in the past, but I thought it would be useful, especially at the start of 2021 to set down some clear guidance in terms of where I think you focus should be when you start your Betfair trading career.

  1. Very informative. As someone whos just starting out trading and using betangel software this videos are an invaluable tool. thanks again

  2. Nice video peter your content has helped alot in my early days of betfair trading i mainly trade horse a question for you.
Do you use horse form wen trading or are you mainly looking at technical and price action

  3. This is not working out, I thought I would really follow your tips, your academy and everything but just pull me into a big lost.
I wont really cry about it, but it is not just as "easy" as it looks like, even after a month trying out the system you loose most of the time and you gain very little.

Its pure gamble thats it. I would be better to throw a 200 gbp on red and I would have more luck.

  4. hello peter I'm interested in how cash out works if I play under 1.5 goals (back all) is it possible to take a profit after 10 minutes of the game without using lay all

  5. hih peter i have recently been watch your videos on the e calculations, goal averages i think i know how it all works,is it possible to do a video from start to finnish highlighting all the figures and what they all mean and do,instead of having to go from one to the other. This is not a complaint because what i have learnt in the last few weeks in lockdown is AMAZING, Many thanks Bob

  6. Please take me on as you’re apprentice Peter 😂 you’re knowledge is second to none

  7. Thanks Peter. Really useful video. Again! What do you think to a Back the draw strategy? Are there any good ones?

  8. Here's a thinker: What is your definition of a bulletproof trader & what does it take to become bulletproof. I'm not talking about perfection but stopping the bad days from wiping you out

  9. This is great advice for beginners such as myself. I'd like to make a suggestion though if I may. Would it be possible to create and deploy lessons in the betangel academy that are sorted into categories like the ones mentioned in this video? At the moment, there is just one large umbrella of pre race trading with dozens of seemingly unrelated videos in there. It's easy to get lost and lose the key messages for all the noise. If under the pre race trading section, there was subsections such as "having a plan", "choosing the right market" etc, each with several videos covering the topic, I think it would be of greater value to students.

  10. Clear, concise and well delivered. I’ve listened to the voice of ‘experience’. There’s an old adage, “Do you have twenty years of experience, or do you have one year’s experience twenty times?” … Peter fits in to the category of twenty plus years experience without a doubt.

My lessons from this excellent few minutes of advice: watch ‘emotion’; don’t think using real money is the same as pretend money; different markets require different strategies; there isn’t one ‘master’ strategy; gambling is risking everything on an outcome, trading is risking a little to either profit or lose a little; split your trading bank in half in the beginning and be prepared to write off half of it whilst learning; there is no ‘ONE’ market and all markets require different methods/strategies. A lot to learn but the advice in this piece from Peter makes a lot of sense. Thanks Peter!

  11. I’ve been using Bet Angel since just before Christmas, mostly in practice mode with no more than 5 days in live mode in that time. The reason for this I’ve said to myself, there’s no rush, even though the temptation is there to try and make money with a click of a button.

In that time I’ve watched a lot of your videos, some several times and each time I study them and pick up more tips along the way.

I’ve also been watching and reading how the financial markets work which has helped gain more knowledge when transferring that information across to the horse racing markets. I’ve studied lots of info on support and resistance, order flow and how the candlesticks show signs of price movements. This has been a huge help of me understanding how charts work, and this past week I’ve been able to have a good strike rate in the markets.

I’m recognising more patterns when I look at a market, should I back or lay, scalp or nothing at all. I think myself discipline and plan is working.

Like I said at the beginning I’ve said to myself there’s no rush because for me I want to make this work and if I put in the hard work I feel confident that I’ll succeed, even though just small fry at the beginning. But something is better than nothing.

I just want to say thank you Peter for everything you do, you’ve been a great help so far, it’s been valuable.

  12. Thanks Peter for another incredibly valuable video. You've absolutely consumed my spare moments in the last 2-3 weeks and not a second has been wasted. Thank you for continuing to provide such informative and valuable advice!

  13. Thanks Peter. I am at the start of my journey, often looking at a lot of your content on Youtube and on the Bet Angel Academy. This is a great video and I will be watching the follow up content. Thank you!!

  14. Very useful surely. As all videos and tips available at Betangel Academy. Precious stuff for beginners 👍

  15. I find that when the horses get like totally opposite trend when is very close to post time. I guess is because there is a visual of the horse that they change mind

  16. Excellent advice. If only I'd seen this at the start of my trading journey, I could have saved myself a lot of time and money not to mention the emotional stress of jumping from one thing to another.

  17. Hi Peter. Thanks for the video. I just have a quick one, do you have any recommendations abou psychology in trading? I am reading predictably irrational which is about behaviour economics and not specifically on trading, but it is helping a lot. Any tips would be very welcome, thanks again for sharing.

  18. I'm just starting out. Only been looking into it for 5 days. Already gaining insights. Bet angel is and amazing tool. Already I see one factor nobody talks about which is psychology. You watch team A post a big score in T20 (big bash) and you know that psychologically team B must come out and bat hard. That leads to risky shots. Those little insights seem simple once you make them but prior they are not. After 5 days I now watch sport in a whole new way. Still practice trading but would have traded big profits today on a T20 match and 2 soccer matches. The amazing thing is it's not like gambling. Gambling is pick who you think will win and back them and sit and watch. Trading allows you to first watch and gain information which you can then use to predict what will happen 'soon'. Why trade on T10 unless the opening batting team is around over 17? No point. Wait for the knowledge to allow you to better predict the trend. NBA – you got a favourite up by 10 but the other team puts on a run of points and gets to within 3. Well that can't continue so the trade is simple. Lay them and wait 5 minutes until the favourite gets in front by a bigger margin. Trends within trends. But not just trends. Psychology. And also if you make an assumption and it's wrong if it's goes well wrong you can trade out it anyway. Example – it's 10 into a soccer game (football but I'm an Aussie) and no score and nobody looks likely. You back the draw and wait. But then a team scores. Your trade is no good. But you wait. Now it's the 75 minute mark and it's still 1 nil so now you lay the draw for a bigger number and wait. Nobody scores for the next 5 and now you can lay and get out of the whole thing still at a small profit. Amazing. I've spent 15 years building an automated betting bot that works with greyhounds, trots and thoroughbreds and it is working but sports trading is even more interesting. The game within the game. Thanks for your software and videos. Awesome stuff.
