Betfair trading | Using pace maps to find profitable in play strategies

When I started Betfair trading on horse racing I focused purely on pre-off trading as that was relatively easy to trade and it was a style of trading I was familiar with.

However, in between races I would often watch the in-play (in-running as it was originally called) markets and slowly but surely learnt how to read a race very well.

I can’t show race reading on YouTube unfortunately but will be producing some content for the

But I can share with you on YouTube what you should be looking at before the start of the race. By understanding how a horse racing is going to be run in play you can get vital information as to where the odds are likely to head.

If you know this, then you can design a Betfair trading strategy around this key piece of information.

  1. Peter what I don't understand is I look at those 'pace maps' on the racingtv site and then if you compare then with the 'pace' scores on the attheraces site (which are numbered up to 9 I think), then you'll find they often totally contradict each other? On the attheraces site they might give a horse a low 'pace' rating and yet on racingtv they predict it to front run or be prominent? Why would they come to different conclusions on running style? And which one is more accurate? I take it you prefer the racingtv one as it's mentioned here. And is paceform better? What are the best ones in your opinion for in-play trading?

  2. Ive been asking for more inplay stuff but now I have a pre off question –
I don't think I've seen a video of you using charts when looking at pre race. What do you think of technical analysis before the off? Do you believe there is not enough time & it's only showing you what has happened but you still have to form an opinion.
I bout a course for £80 that heavy uses candle charts pre off

  3. Still the best sports trading Vlogger on Youtube, thanks Peter. Do you ever meet up with fellow traders sometimes socially? your treks in the wilderness sound fun too that you mentioned in a previous video, although you probably go there to escape)))

  4. What paid for services do you use? In a previous video , you mentioned Paceform, do you use them?

  5. putting your stake on before the race assuming that you have a front runner or held up horse can be a gamble quite often trainers change their tactics and the exact opposite of what you thought would happen does happen, best to have a live feed and then decide if you going to enter the market.I believe racing tv works out something like 80p a day for all races, dont know about the speed of the feed but of course one decent trade more than pays for this, by the way looking forwards to april when my subscription runs out on another software and can come back home to bet angel, thought id give a try to one which has great reviews but boy is it complicated and not a patch on yours for being user friendly.

  6. Thank you for this! Colour of the squares on the pacemap reminds me of looking at blood on a urine dip test bottle! However pacemap will probs be more use to me now lol!

  7. Thank you for this. There seems to be a lack of credible info out there about in play trading, particularly on horse racing.

  8. Would that be helpful in finding races for laying the field strategy ? Maybe races with 2-3 frontrunners?
