I would guess the Ukrainians were told to hold Bakhmut until after the one year anniversary of the special military operation and now they will start to pullout.
It looks like there will be no encirclement again. The Ukrainian army will just withdraw west, to fight another day.
A simply can't believe the russian leadership to be so inept. No war can be won without maneuvers, encirclements, cauldrons, gaps in the front and their exploitation.
They should capture this by end of February because leopards are coming to reverse all the gains made by Wagner. They will be pushed back all the way to Moscow. Long range missiles are also bombing Russian bases now causing shortages in ammunition Wagner is complaining about.
I appreciate the effort you put into gathering information and reporting on a daily basis, but I think you are misleading your followers because you have been talking about the offensive that Russia is allegedly planning for months, you have to understand that the Russians gave up the strategy of maneuver war after they failed to capture Kiev and Kharkiv. Russian military leadership made a decision to change the strategy and to adapt to the conditions of a positional war because it is impossible to conduct a maneuver war on the Donbas direction, which is too well fortified.For months Russia has been using the strategy of atrition, which is the most effective for the current conditions on the front, Russia wants to escalates this conflict and leads NATO to mobilize its industry, then Russia will declare a general mobilization as a response because it will be a perfect justification for their public, when they mobilize 2.5 million soldiers, Ukraine will be quickly overrun and the West will be humiliated because it has used all its capacities.

Last night I watched a drone flyover video of Bakhmut. The place is shot to hell and largely deserted because the "Kyiv" forces were operating from inside civilian infrastructure. if you wanted to make some kinda point that ukranian advisor was gung ho for this you should have removed all of the context and just had the part you want to quote.. cause even with the little context there is only shows him saying given the two options his choice was war. Honestly most in the west would say that as well, sitting from the comfort and safety of their homes of course.

it's either they join NATO with a war with Russia, or they simply DONT JOIN NATO and perform their duties of the Minsk Agreements which state that Donbass remains part of Ukraine but with more autonomy.

How completely delusional. This was the enemy's mindset in 2019, put on public display. It probably existed since before the coup.
To say that we are not dealing with rational actors would be a huge understatement. How can the Russians deal with people who actually want WW3, without it coming to that?
What if anything can stop this?.. My guess is that the Russians just have to win the conventional war while it is still a conventional war.
If an enemy cannot be reasoned with, then it just has to be beaten. I don't see any other way.
This war is just insane in the brain. Not on the part of the Russians, but their enemies. And it was Russia's enemies who started this war in every way. They actually WANTED this.
