  1. Do you have a more recent video which goes through the entire setup. So for example I am looking for a 2.5gbe router that can then connect to the switch you recommended.

  2. How do I get my 2.5g to work on all of my 3 devices, modem 2.5g, router 2.5g and network switch 2.5g? There's only one 2.5g port on the modem and router.

  3. I know this posting is old but I never saw any mention of what Modem and Router you use in this video. Can you share that information.

  4. huh i never considered using a usb > 2.5gb dongle. And that qnap is cheaper than the 300 dollar switch I put in my wishlist! This video just saved me money lol

  5. 10 years ago people said gigabit is plenty for wired connections in the home.

If you were wiring your home today would you still go cat6 for the home. Or jump to 2.5gigabit. Wireless connections have caught up.

  6. You are not getting the whole 2.5 Gbit because of layer 2, 3, 4 headers. It consumes some bandwith to contain the adress of the packets/segments/frames.

  7. So how does this 2.5GB switch work: 1) ISP 1GB service to 2)1GB WAN/LAN router to 3) 2.5GB switch (which increases 1GB ISP service to 2.5GB?) to 4) 2.5GB USB adapter to 5) Type C or A port on desktop/laptop? Or does the switch provide extra 2.5GB ports beyond the 2.5GB or higher router LAN ports? Sorry, I'm IT-rookie confused what purpose the 2.5GB switch serves?

  8. USB?? Maybe for the people without enough experience to open a PC or for a laptop yes, Recommending USB dongles for Gigabit speeds is a no no……

  9. I was considering buying this to add to my existing Asus 10GbE switch, the only BIG problem is that all of the connection ports are on the from of the device and not on the rear…..WTF was QNAP thinking?

  10. you can run 10GB on your CAT5e as well in perfect conditions.
But: not to forget the heavy power consumption of 10GB ports. 24/7 it will cost you ~30 bucks per year per port (at least in european countries with high costs and "greener current")!
2,5GB is much lower in power consumption, so let`s see if and when the 10GB Standard will come. Still, it`s an environment-dirtbag.

  11. Does anyone know whether the USB dongle works in FreeBSD 11 and 12? (also FreeNAS)

  12. Screenshot @ 3:08 shows the message being repeated multiple times per second. Has anyone been able to get Realtek's attention as to why cdc_ncm driver is repeatedly posting the link status?

  13. You neglected to mention how difficult it is for the average person to source one of these QNAP 2.5GbE switches in USA/Canada. I’ve been looking to buy for weeks,……..weeks I say.
