David Kushner – Daylight (Official Music Video)

“Daylight” out now on all platforms:

Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
Telling myself I won’t go there
Oh, but I know that I won’t care
Tryna wash away all the blood I’ve spilt
This lust is a burden that we both share
Two sinners can’t atone from a lone prayer
Souls tied, intertwined by pride and guilt

[Pre-Chorus]
(Ooh) There’s darkness in the distance
From the way that I’ve been livin’
(Ooh) But I know I can’t resist it

[Chorus]
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
You and I drink the poison from the same vine
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
Hidin’ all of our sins from the daylight
From the daylight, runnin’ from thе daylight
From the daylight, runnin’ from the daylight
Oh, I love it and I hatе it at the same time

[Verse 2]
Tellin’ myself it’s the last time
Can you spare any mercy that you might find
If I’m down on my knees again?
Deep down, way down, Lord, I try
Try to follow your light, but it’s nighttime
Please don’t leave me in the end

[Pre-Chorus]
(Ooh) There’s darkness in the distance
I’m beggin’ for forgiveness
(Ooh) But I know I might resist it, oh

[Chorus]
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
You and I drink the poison from the same vine
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
Hidin’ all of our sins from the daylight
From the daylight, runnin’ from the daylight
From the daylight, runnin’ from the daylight
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
You and I drink the poison from the same vine
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
Hidin’ all of our sins from the daylight
From the daylight, runnin’ from the daylight
From the daylight, runnin’ from the daylight
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time

  1. I have been a massive music fan for my whole life. I can’t even begin to describe the feelings I get from this song. I’m a high school guy with a lot of anxiety and depression, and It honestly makes me want to just break down. To say that this song amazed me would be an understatement. The lack of truly good songs nowadays is certainly there, because I was even more surprised when I found out how recent this was. God bless all of y’all reading this❤️

  2. I love the artistic and religious references in this part right here:
1:46 and the lyrics “You and I both drink poison from the same vine.”
    Context:

it’s no secret that this song has some religious tones. I’m speculating that
the song is about a man who is deemed by himself and people around him a “sinner.” So this part here (1:46 ) is so interesting as I think it’s supposed to reference the adulterous woman in John 8 (I think it’s John 8), where one of the Pharisee’s caught a woman in the act of adultery, and back then, the fitting punishment for such a crime, was to be stoned to death.

At the time, Jesus was being tested by the Pharisees where they asked him if they should stone her or not. If he said to stone her, he would be deemed as unmerciful and cruel, but if he said not to stone her, his credibility of being “a man of god” will be challenged. So Jesus said, “those without sin be the first to throw a stone.” So the people who criticised her did not stone her.

Jesus said that, to protect the woman because whoever threw the first stone at her would be considered blasphemous and hypocrites. Making them face punishment, because such an act would also lead to death. But that’s besides the point. The point is that the people who want to throw stones are sinners as well.

The man in the video is being ostracised for his “sin” and it is shown in 1:46. Yet the people who judge him and throw stones at him are the very same people who are sinners as well!

The lyrics, “You and I both drink poison from the same vine.” Implies that, they’re just the same people who who do the same things and sin too.

Overall, I really like the artistic thought that made this music video, as it captures how judgmental and hypocritical people can be in a religious setting.

  3. Masterpiece – has anything else described life as it is now? Not even close. Tears from my heart pour when I listen to this.

  4. This song is perfect. My dads in jail right now, but I can't wait to show it to him. He's struggled with addiction for a long time. It's always like God's got a grasp on one half of him while addiction tries to take the rest. I know this song will make him cry
