  1. Nice sequencing of trying to figure out the trouble I was watching Scotty , he mentioned these days the piston rings are soo weak, there not like the old days when u had to get a 2×4 placing it on the top and banging away to get the ring on tolerances we’re super tight, these days if you get sludge in those piston rings it’ll ruin them hence needing to change your oil at 5,000 with synthetic. The bore scope at the end was brilliant great job on figuring it out, I would have done the same thing with the spark plug and injector swap along with reading my scan code reader

  2. Got to be a ring issue and not a value seal. Why trouble shows up under load and not at engine vacuum higher at idle so value seal would show up there.

  3. Would a chemical cleaner may get s little more out of it. It obliviusly has stuck rings. Why I ignore the oil life monitor and change it every 4500 to 5000 miles with synethic oil.

  4. We now know that the other shop was being honest too. That's a good thing. The injector swap was a good idea, trying to eliminate the cheap and cheerful repairs before concluding that it needs a very expensive one. Great job.

  5. Only 110,000 miles. That's pretty low miles, for a Toyota to have this type of problem.
How about switching the injectors from #4 to#1. I guess I was getting ahead of myself.
Maybe using an extender aka none fouler ?
I know that's not going to "fix" the problem.

  6. This happened me recently with a opel Astra 1.4. Exact same code popped up I swapped all coil plugs and 4 new spark plugs and CEL kept popping up. Did a compression test on all 4 cylinders and number 4 was at about 7/8 when all the others were 12/13 Just ended up parting out. Have a 2.0 diesel now

  7. Oil change interval was 3000 miles on the wife's 2007 Camry – purchased new, and I changed the oil myself – so I know it wasn't neglected. I even drew out the extra 1/2 pint of dirty oil thru the drain plug with a vacuum pump each time – drain plug is higher than inside of oil pan. Started burning oil badly at 100,000 miles, but I switched to10W-40. Oil usage dropped tremendously. I was really disappointed with Toyota on this one, and it will be driven into the ground. Now at about 180,000 miles.

  8. I had a misfire once, it made my car noticeably slower and the CEL flashed when it did misfire. Had it not been happening while rolling, the engine may have stalled.

  9. Ill never go the extra mile for a customer that has no idea what im doing or will never understand how much work for free we do. They always want you to “check this out” just to have the writer say pull it out, but dont think that takes time and we dont get paid for “looking” at something.

  10. From the previous report, compression test first. Someone commented that could have been initiated by overheating. If mileage is correct I'd go along with the idea it had previously been cooked.

  11. You got to change the oil on those every 5K miles.. 07 Camry 220,000 miles no issues burns 1 Qt.every 5K miles.

  12. Wow that's what the Mechanic told me After he did a tune up and couldn't fix a misfire Which ended up being a catalytic converter Plus 1 Ford dealer dealer was going to put a new you can put a new ECU on the truck I need my A/C checked but I don't trust anyone

  13. So things like this do you tack pitchers of the plugs an with you scope on what you seen in the piston walls to show the costumer to help the costumer know what it shed look like and what #4 is not what it shed look like I know a pitcher helps out a lot

  14. Absolutely tremendous video. The drama of waiting to see if it was cylinder #1 or #4 was breathtaking. Thanks for your work both visually and verbally. You are a terrific detective, teacher, and storyteller.

  15. Owned a 2010 Toyota Camry with the 2.5 best car I've owned had 270,000 miles and never missed a beat. Too bad she got T-boned by a guy who ran a stop sign last year 😭

  16. Great video quality and nice close ups! Very pleasing to watch. I always admire how you are able to work and record everything at the same time 😮

  17. I would have filed 2 times the cylinder 4 with EGR/AGR valve cleaner liquid solution for 15 minutes each. I had good very result this way to remove tar on the cylinder and the tar locking the piston rings, and recover compression. Oil change is mandatory.

  18. A valve stem seal would not require a cylinder head removal, would it?
I’m not a Toyota guy but aren’t they generally all installed the same?
    454 Chevys for me.

  19. Could it be a coil/Infiniti in side not providing spark allowing fuel to just sit in the cylinder and build up along with oil since it’s not firing and not burning ?
