  1. Sports have to be sporting. If this were boxing, then Riptide would be disqualified for attacking a downed opponent. If this were football, it would be at best unnecessary roughness. However, I would really like to see the uncut fight. It doesn't take many of the two or three second cutaways for reactions to turn a quick knckout that went a little too far (okay, a lot too far), into something that looks Real Bad like this. Hydra should be in the same situation for attacking a bot that was being counted out…

I really think this fight has a similar root cause to the post-timeout part of last season's Witch Doctor / Minotaur fight in that it's a problem with communications between the referees. If the producers really want to treat this as a sport, they'll want to have some sort of method for the refs to signal when it looks like one bot could be out and that the attacking opponent needs to back off, and then enforce that rule with appropriate penalties if the attack continues. Either that, or they can cough fully pay for the bots.

  2. Its weapon was still moving….. They could have switched it off if they wanted to give up. And if they didn't want to repair damage then they are probably in the wrong hobby lol. Complaining about it is just laughable. Besides, that's such a boring old design anyway, and long overdue a total overhaul by the team. They were done a favour.

  3. A tap out button that enables a signal scrambler disabling both transmitters and turns the lights off in the battle box could be instituted and the tap out light will glow the color of the corner of that tapped out. Simple. I wouldn't be surprised if Tombstone enters the room to put Riptide in its place. Thing is the Riptide driver is Autistic and has behavior issues, so he doesn't comprehend social cues like mercy on a competitor. Cobra Kai, no mercy for Daniel San…

  4. The new "diversified" referee sounds like she is hoarse from gargling too much on something…

  5. Why wasn't Capt. Shredderator shutdown? He was still spinning so if Riptide had a catastrophic failure it could have been counted out. Riptide just did what it needed to do.
Why is Capt Shredderator even there? Since 2015 through it's last match it has won a whopping 28% of the time.

  6. This season has been all "if it is moving it is not dead yet" now we get "that was so unnecessary" while the robot is moving all over the place. Pick one 🤷‍♂️

  7. To be fair Riptide should had left Captain Shredderator when it is already on its back as I do not see how Captain Shredderator could find its way back unless it has a self-righting pole similar to Gigabyte and Bloodsport.

  8. Did Riptide go too far? Maybe. Let's put some things in perspective. This is a destructive sport. You go in with tens of thousands of dollars of equipment. You don't know if you are going to come out with some paint damage, or if you go out like Ghost Raptor. Captain Shrederator was still moving. Riptide hit him till he stopped. He could have waited after it was partly inverted, but didn't know if it was going to flip around. I am no fan of Riptide, but I don't think he did anything wrong. You don't want to put in $10,000 in repairs, get out of the sport!

  9. They’ve gotta make a new bot, full body spinners never work and always fall apart. Maybe SOW is an exception but that isn’t a true FBS.

  10. Shrederator did the SAME thing to those two mini-bots it faced a year ago. A ton of hits while they were being counted out and even a hit after the count out that sent one flying. Hypocritical much?

  11. Nice destruction. This is what I came for and so does everyone else. Well deserved for still spinning up and crying in a battle

  12. Riptide has always been All Potential ZERO Delivery so I can understanding their bloodlust – "Gee – we've never worked well enough to thumb anyone. And now, with a disabled and helpless bot, we need to boost our fragile ego by hitting weak and helpless victims more." I think Riptide could have done more floor-cleaning and achieved the same success that way. One thing certain: this will be Riptide's only forever-highlight.

  13. I see a lot of people mad this was chosen as fight of the week,
The fight of the week is chosen for a lot of damage done, like Witch Doctor vs Fusion, over-the-top aggression, like Witch Doctor vs Gruff, or big upsets, like Ripperoni vs End Game, not how entertaining the fight is. And to be honest, this was more entertaining than Monsoon vs Whiplash.

  14. I seriously am not understanding the hate from posts here. What am I missing? At about 5:40 in the video, when the last hit occurs, Shredderator is still spinning and speeding up its spin. Are you telling me the owners of Shredderator are not able to power it down? By 5:45 in the video, Shredderator finally stops moving and Riptide backs off. He backs off as soon as Shredderator stops moving. I've seen many of these bot fights through the years and I don't understand how this is poor sportsmanship. I can understand how their actions before and after the match are poor sportsmanship, but the match itself looked to be following all rules, written and unwritten. If Team Shredderator didn't want their bot mangled so badly, why did they allow it to start speeding up again at 5:40??? There was maybe a 5 second period while bot was in midair that it wasn't turning, but it started turning again after it landed so I don't see what the bad play is here.

  15. Not a fan of Shred and the robot always seems to fail. If this was Riptide showing him the door, so be it

  16. Saw the posts on social media before seeing the video. Was not as bad as I anticipated. Kid will eat humble pie soon. I like the idea of tap out buttons, however this sport wouldn't get nearly as much viewership outside of the "inner nerds" if they just have everyone tap out to save money on repairs. To wrap up, the fight was fair and within the rules, the behavior before and after is where the un sportsman like behavior lies. if they had gone over and shook his hand and said hey sorry, but good fight. Glad I got to battle you. After the fight it would have been 1000x better.

  17. Battlebots if you want to profit off of the fact that the wider audience likes to watch total destruction like this then pay your builders better so they can afford a $10k repair in 1 day.

You're right that the non-fan audience will like this more than a better more technical fight and it will bait engagement from fans who know how much toxicity the Kurtz's have brought to the pits.

  18. Unfortunately this kind of fight actually appeals to non-fans more than monsoon v whiplash would. Even minotaur vs cobalt isn't necessarily what non-fans want.

Cobalt vs ghost raptor and hypershock vs rotator are what they want.

I'm also not happy about the controversy but at least the YouTube team knows what they are doing trying to widen the audience.

  19. "It was pretty hard to tell when to stop" – My man, if you've bent their baseplate at a 90 degree angle THEY AREN'T GOING TO MOVE

  20. Ok, so for those who don't know, this footage is heavily edited. The part where the team protests happened at the end of the fight, not during. It was edited in to seem like they kept hitting after being asked to stop, but it's not what happened.

Also as you can see Cpt. Shredderator kept spinning and bouncing around, basically signaling to keep the fight going. Only in the very last seconds of the fight footage it can be argued there was an unnecessary hit, but the damage had already been done at that point.

It's funny because usually Shredderator always dies on the first or second impact. Like, dies dies, immobile. This is the only fight of them where they kept spinning even after taking heavy hits. Maybe they're not used to it, but they should have powered down.

  21. He's just a cocky over the top guy. Like Mohammad Ali in his youth. And he will keep doing this until someone knocked the living daylights out of him
