Emaraaty Ana just holds off Starman in a thrilling edition of the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Park.
The winning time of 1m 09.10s was a new race record for the six-furlong Group One contest, which is part of the QIPCO British Champions Series, bettering the 1m 09.40s set by Markab in 2010.
It was a second Betfair Sprint Cup success for Kevin Ryan, following the success of Hello Youmzain in 2019.

This is why you have to be careful with draws especially in sprints, starman was far too short in the betting with that draw. If he was drawn centre like stall 6 he definitely wins but being slightly isolated and committing early has cost him there.
Saturday's racing. At Kempton Park, Eve Lodge was a surprise winner of the Sirenia Stakes and Hamish got the better of Hukum and Foxtail to win the September Stakes. At Haydock Park, Triple Time won the Ascendant Stakes and the same jockey of Triple Time led the likes of Lord Glitters and My Oberon a merry dance in the Superior Mile, gun to tape. Artistic Rifles, the winning mount. Island Brave and Mondammej were the two other winners of the card, both thrillers. The Sprint Cup was the feature Group 1 race of the day. It was a thrilling finish as Emaaraty Ana got the better of Starman, separated by a nose. Andrea Atzeni had a day to remember.

Run this race again ten times, starman would win 9 outta 10 of them. Much the best horse, hit a big bucks style flat spot, flew at the finish. Even money was a brilliant price today
Got 9/2 on Starman two weeks ago and was basically counting my money. Can't believe it lost quite frankly. Seemed to hit a flat spot. Extremely gutting as it's clearly the best horse in that race
