Football betting & Betfair trading tips | Lay the draw | Finding the perfect trade

The Betfair trading strategy ‘Lay the draw’ has been around for a very long time.

It was set out as a variation on a simple betting strategy and was one of the first popular football trading strategies.

There are two elements in the strategy, one of which is picking the right match, which deserves a separate video and picking the right moment to get a decent payoff.

In this video, I show you a neat trick to solve the problem with the second question.

  1. Really good video. I agree with many others. Please do a video on types of matches to select for "Lay the draw". Where do I find the rule files to download you mention in this video?

  2. Please make a part 3 of this series with taking in consideration the home/ away, injuries, weather and other factors that might influence a game.. Cheers

  3. ya, i have no idea how to do match selection for the lay the draw strategy. will be happy to hear more about it from you Peter

  4. Yes seeing market selection would be good. Even better if you could do a trade yourself. I know your mainly horses but a smallish stake to show how it would work. Good man 👍👍👍

  5. I'm going to download the trial very soon. Can you please do a Test Cricket video if possible, to Celebrate England's return to test cricket. I'm good at horses but i'm a bad cricket trader lol

  6. Great video Peter. Many people saying how important is entry point while LTD. But what about closing point? Should i let some them trades run as a bet till very end, or try to hedge in last few mins…?

I love spreadsheets, reading, and more importantly – making it ! . I am quite interested about Greyhounds racing. So many dogs, tracks, races, so much data !. So, i woke up early in morning, picked one specific racetrack, and put into spreadsheet 6months of races. Sligthly over 2000 runs, trap by trap, including winning dog BSP, for betting simulation.
I got tired after few hours…even results look somehow interesting though, but am i wasting time ??? Or could find some edge by simply looking at trap's performance ?
    Thanks

  7. Excellent video, as always, but just one or two questions please. If you do a market selection video, would you also include some odds movement scenarios please, Peter? I might be acting incredibly thick here (and I did read the forum post) but I just could not get my head around the best case scenario – let us say if you had laid the draw at around 2 and the predicted +1 goal differential was say 4 – what would your options be in order to green up? I have already downloaded the automation files and understand the principle, but a trading example would be perfect. Thank you.

  8. As always Peter, and excellent and thought provoking video – thanks for your continued generosity in posting. I have a question about the potential validity of using the "+1" goal markets as predictors. Is there a rule of thumb as to the volume there should be in this market for this to be a (relatively) reliable indicator? For instance on the example you give here there is just over £5k on the Chelsea +1 for a pretty big Premiership game. For smaller games and smaller leagues this is likely to be significantly smaller. So at what volume level does the confidence it gives become more risky?

  9. When you say how much profit and how much loss you must also say the expected win rate to give us and idea of the strike rate of the strategy you are describing to us.
