  2. @1:31:00 – I think you nailed it. That's the difference between winning & losing in deploying capital. Either you can lie or you can't. It's not even something I think you can change.

  3. Energy usage per capita stagnation since 1971 can probably be attributed to globalism (moving manufacturing abroad) and technical advancements in energy efficiency.

  4. Why wouldn't we worry about wealth distribution when we have a finite amount of resources. Human problems are very time sensitive due to our short lives.

  5. "Things that don't affect you, you should avoid" , i keep saying this over and over again, it is so refreshing to know that there are other people with the same mentality regarding politics and events from 10k + km/miles away.

  6. if you don't trust android to be your primary phone, then wtf do you even use ???? an iPhone ? you trust an apple product ??? seriously ??? wtf george, I thought you were better than this

  7. Yes – China went from a country where the vast majority of people lived in rural areas with subsistent living – moving into cities [1]. Surprise the energy usage increase? Huh? Why is that surprising? It certainly was not because China somehow became a bastion of meritocracy in 2000 and shunned wokeness. There may actually be a flattening of their own energy usage starting in 2021 or so.

The timelines you use seem to coincide with the beginning of industrial revolution. Science benefitted immensely. Since that time the cost of furthering our knowledge has increased with each discovery. Things like Super Colliders cost billions of dollars. The money the Gov't pays Musk to develop space ships is enormous. Advancement cost more than it once did. The low hanging fruit has been picked.

Finally I may even agree that ideology has replaced a certain amount of reason but Mr Thiel is no stranger to pushing controversial ideologies of his own. So colleges haven't produced as much because of creeping wokeness from the 70's. Well computers have been increasingly used starting the 70's. Maybe computer use is causing our productivity to flatten out? People getting dumber amusing themselves to death with games. I think there are any number of variables one could pick that happen to coincide.

  8. If you can't deploy capital, you are not a full Alchemist, you are merely a programmer. You are stuck in the wind cycle of the alchemic cycle. Programming is not about code, it's programming the world. People programmed before there was code.

If you want to break this, learn about alchemy and read the texts of Hermes Trismegistos.

I would work for you in a snap goddamnit. Find some way to use my skills already.
I have interesting skills regarding Computer Vision for 3D driving and I think I can push the state of the art by combining old (epipolar geometry) and new methods.

  9. George, you might be able to make more use of human capital if you understand this about a certain demographic of your followers.

People often ask you how to get good at <skillset>, but that's not really what they're asking. They know that the answer is "do it a lot." What they really want is very specific stepping stones that will keep them engaged long enough to feel the reward of accomplishment. They want to want to contribute to tinygrad, but they can't remain engaged long enough to reach a feeling of accomplishment.

If I could contribute to tinygrad with even a fraction of the efficiency that I can contribute to my job's codebase, I would. I cloned tinygrad one time, but I couldn't envision a path that ended up with me contributing, so my motivation evaporated.

"Man can do what he wills but he cannot will what he wills."
    – Arthur Schopenhauer

Here's a proposal. Do a side-by-side livestream with someone who programs for a living and knows what a neural network is but has no experience with deep learning frameworks. Work with them until they are able to contribute something. When this channel posts it, many similar programmers can watch the video and learn.
