Legend lost superstar chaser Cyrname dies aged 11 as devastated punters remember brave horse who ended Altair’s record streak
Punters were devastated after the death of superstar Chaser Sirenim.
The Paul Nicholls-trained winning machine was the Grade 1 champion at his peak and famous for ending Ultivar’s world-record 19-race winning streak.
Sirenum was a monster in his prime and racing is remembering the chaser after his death at the age of 11.
In the Titanic Duel at Ascot in November 2019, the Johnny de la Hey-owned gelding overcame Nicky Henderson’s stable star by two lengths to end a dominant run of racing.
A tweet from Eat the Races confirmed that Sirenum, who was last seen pulling at Wetherby in October 2021, had died this morning.
One punter said: “Wow this is so heartbreaking. Sincere condolences to everyone.”
Another wrote: “Never forget him beating the streak of the mighty Ultivar. Thoughts are with his connections.”
While a fellow fan left a message saying: “Sad news. Thoughts are with Connection.”
Sirenum won eight of his 23 races and earned more than £350,000.
During a golden spell in the winter of 2019, he won the bet365 Handicap Chase at Ascot by 21 lengths at 4-1 under Harry Cobden in January.
He then scored a 17-length win in the Grade 1 Betfair Ascot Chase the following month.
