HARD OFF Retro Game Hunting in Tokyo (Love at First Sight)

Today, I was joined by my buddy Jared of Avalanche Reviews, and we went to a quiet area in Northwest Tokyo where we found a Hard Off that was loaded with games and consoles. EPIC GAME HUNT incoming!

  1. So I know yoiu can occasionally find some Japanese stuff over here in the states depending on where you are looking…

I was just curious.. Do you ever see any English/American versions of games out there in Japan? If so do they charge a lot more?

Kinda random question, but never even thought to ask until now. Thanks!

  2. Arcade Typing of the Dead ran on Naomi, which is very much not a PC. It's just a Dreamcast with more RAM and slightly higher clock speeds.

  3. Hey Jim, I love your channel definitely want to go to Japan. Someday I’ve been looking for a copy of CIB Original MARIO 64 Japanese Version not the rumble version. It has a special place for my father that passed away in 2006 that was the first game and system we bought together before the US version came out as far as the system went and he’s bought me video games my entire life until he passed away, but I was hoping if you have time And are able to find a boxed copy of Mario 64. It doesn’t have to be perfect but I would like to have the box in the manual and the cartridge in good shape. I’ll pay you and pay whatever you need me to pay for you to ship it to Ohio, it would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully you see this. If not, I’ll post it on your next video. Thanks again Ryan.

  4. I know for sure Goonies came to PAL because I played it on the NES as a kid. But I think there's some weird thing like we got the second one but it was just named Goonies.

    PS: poi poi!!

  5. The Beena was Sega's successor to the Pico, but it wasn't made by Sega themselves, bu their toy division, Sega Toys. technically their final console too as it was released after the Dreamcast.

Did you see many PSX's there as well? place used to overfill with broken ones there about ten years ago.

  6. Jared looks like he would’ve been a vocalist for a metalcore band inspired by Integrity and All Out War, haha. Great video! I would love to be able to pickup a Japanese backwards compatible PS3 for those prices.

  7. Great to see you both together, I love your channels and I was just wondering if you were friends! Hope to see more Jared on your channel!! ✌️

  8. A very nice hunting video, good length and a pretty well stocked Hard Off! But man the prices have gone up the last couple of years…

  9. Hi Jim,

I'm going to visit Japan for the first time in May, are there some stores you recommend I check out? Truthfully looking for Street Fighter/KOF/Sega/Konami merch. Any recommendations will be appreciated!

  10. Great to see Jared on a video with you, hope maybe you'll do some more discussion based stuff with him. Enjoy seeing the overall summary of spend, would be nice to compare them against eBay prices to see what you/buyers are saving. Thanks sharing, Jim.

  11. Awesome tour, Gooines was released in the USA but it's a totally different game from Goonies 2, I could never find part 2 in the USA, because it was only on that Players Choice in the arcade.

  12. My Japanese wanted list is as follows – Doremi Fantasy, Spartan X, Hoshi no Kirby, Battle Mobile SFC, Vampire Savor, Kid Dracula, Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti, Pacman FC clamshell, Dondokodon 2 FC, Mario Bros 3, Salamander FC, Exerion FC, Takahashi Meijin no Boken Jima FC, PCE vol 49 Adventure island, Spriggan powered SFC, Sparkster SFC, Flying Hero SFC, Ghost Sweeper SFC, Gogo Ackman 3 SFC, Kiki Kaikai SFC, Hermie Hopperhead PS1, Wani Wani World MD, Warehouse Game MD, Sin and Punishment N64, Internal Section PS1, Gunners Heaven PS1, Puzzle Bobble 3dO, Mariopaint mouse pack SFC, Lickle FC, Kunio Renegade FC, Double Dragon FC, Gan Gan Chan SFC. Some big bucks to be spent there. I also want an SLS PS2 Saturn joypad. I have 1 already, but want another for Street fighter on PS2 (2p). I'm also picking up hardware in August, on my list is any White PS2 system, they are small so fit easily in suitcases. I already have a pickup waiting for me, a 1994 SCPh1000 PS1 system mint in box. I bought a launch ps1 in 1994 and mine is a bit beat up as I travelled around the world with it. I will be in the hunt for a SCPH10000 PS2 CIB as well. If the hotel will help me ship stuff home I might put a hardware box together along with a front loader neo geo cd and if I can afford it a wondermega. I don't have the budget for all of this, i'll buy what I see on the list in August. Maybe see you there Jim if your up for it, we are staying in Akiba near the train station.
