On the 19th of February 1985 a Boeing 747SP, China Airlines flight 006, was operated a scheduled passenger service between Taipei in Taiwan to Los Angeles in the United States.
After about 10 hours in flight, the number 4 engine started having issues and eventually failed. The way the pilots handled the engine failure led to a loss of control inflight event with disastrous consequences.
In this video I will tell you all about it. Stay tuned.

Taipei in China? Erm, you say you are r a pilot?
I thought this would be a video about a dangerous crash but holy damn, how they solved that and managed to land is incredible
I finally got to fly in a 747 (KLM from Los Angeles to Amsterdam) just 3 years ago. I've been flying for over 50 years, since before I was born, and had never been on one. I decided to live it up, given the occasion and the way the market is going – it was probably my last chance – so I shelled out the big bucks for a ticket up front in seat 1A. I was actually forward of the pilots! Fortunately, nothing this exciting happened, but if it had… What a great plane.
10:10 Wish I could switch off my wife's PMS system! HEYOOO!
Now I know what happens when you do loops with a 747
"Taipei in China" that's gonna trigger some people.
I'm surprised that the plane didn't end up in the sea!!!
I just don't understand why planes don't have a plum line in the cockpit? That would resolve so many questions about what is actually happening if the crew loses situational awareness.
I panic on a flight if there is some turbulence. I would be terrified if the plane rolled 360 degrees.
Shouldnt the recommendations have said, to give the autopilot the possibility to control the rudder? Why is it not allowed to do that?
Denzel woulda inverted it tho
The plane really hold up well after all the stress, great job!
Taipei is in Taiwan.
Is this why you're still alive? Because you know all this stuff? Like you have to drop to 30,000 feet to restart the engine. I fly RC planes and quadcopters and we have a cool return to home or GPS rescue function. I know these planes are way more complicated but when you get down to it, it's the same principles of flight. The same control surfaces. It just seems like a several million dollar plane in this day and age should be able to fly itself and fix any problem it has. Like right engine out, I get to use the rudder. They try to relight the engine, a voice should come on and say hey dummy, drop to engine start altitude before you all die.
Petter I completely enjoy your videos. So competent, well-researched, positive, and engagingly presented. Thank you for providing such great content, and best of luck.
Taipei is in Taiwan, not China
Taipie is in Taiwan not china lol 🙂
Everyone is saying that the pilots are heroes.. but i think.. they fucked it up in the first place
I am not a pilot and only partially understand the aeronautical technical discussion; but, I appreciate being educated on the complexity of piloting an aircraft. People who think they can F around on flights and disrupt the cabin crews have no clue how complex flight operations are.
"……the flight from Taipei in China…." I don't think that people in Taiwan would agree about that….
When did that overtake of power in Taipei happen….???
"Soul crushing G force"…wow!
A hundred reasons not to fly.
Good thing , this whole incident didn't happen at night, the outcome would have been totally different.
OK, so, what did the bleed hog have to do with anything?
How come these so called "veteran" or "experienced" pilots not even trust that simple artificial horizon on their dashboards…. Isn't it said that both of those things are highly reliable and both (pilots side and co pilots side) are even separate to one another. SMH ☹️

Taiwan 🇹🇼 is not China!!!!! Don't give into their bullying! It's wrong and YOU know that!
Taipei is in Taiwan, isn’t it?
You made an error with the country. Its Taiwan not China but its okay haha
Why did they make the Autopilot not have rudder control?
Taipeh in china?
You mean Taipeh in Taiwan.
