  1. It’s amazing. Every time we start a new project, from deck to flooring to bathroom remodel to now retaining walls, we find an incredibly helpful video or video series from Jeff! What would we do without you!

  2. Could you please be more specific about the geotextile? I searched for this word in Home Depot and there were a lot of stuff, but which one is best? Maybe a brand and specifications? Thank you for your videos!

  3. Great video man but you definitely are safety 2nd. LOL. When you were using the saw to cut the stone and head your foot right next to it bro you had me nervous. If that thing skipped off the stone somehow and when a little bit left it could have got your foot. I guess if you don't care about it why should we lol. Other than that, very easy and educational video.

  4. Is there a reason why a masonry string wasn't used for this application? I have always seen jobs like this done with a masonry line..

  5. OMG it's Jeff! My man – your videos walked us through moving a door in a bathroom. Here we go again with another DIY to do a retaining wall.

  6. Holy shit. At the very least you should wear a dust mask when cutting stone and concrete…unless you want silicosis.

  7. I m sorry but those bricks are not for retaining wall they have to be blocks that can be pinned and glue it but they have to be cleaned with wire brush to make sure they going to be glue it perfect

  8. Love the attitude Jeff!! 🫡😎👊🏻 nice job!! You can tell when I guy knows his business far better than the YouTube experts peanut gallery!!😉🤣👍🏻

  9. Famous last words, mate I’ve seen guys who have used these for 40years and still get hurt don’t worry ur get urs one day

  10. Anytime I have a project to do, I look it up on YouTube. So happy to see your content pop up because I trust you! Thanks for this!

  11. Just gotta highlight the realness. If you gotta go back and forth to make that first brick layer perfect. Do it. You only get one chance. Thanks for showing that being impatient in this process will screw you over! Be patient with the process.

  12. Thank you for the help, it is greatly appreciated. Tell the guy in the black shorts and grey t-shirt to stay away from the camera, I found it really distracting. Must be my adhd.

  13. Silicosis? Nice job you’re always very brave but you really should use protective equipment has nothing to do with fearing but everything to do with safety especially your lungs can’t get a new pair of lungs quickly.

  14. Is that geotextile woven or non woven? Looks like woven but not sure, can you give me a definite answer please? Thank you

  15. Hi Jeff, I am planning to rebuild a flagstone retaining wall. It will be approximately 4 ft at tallest point, and I am hoping for it to support a 12x15ft cement slab that will have a flagstone patio set in mortar on top of it. I should mention this will be built on a slope so it will essentially be a raised flagstone patio supported by a flagstone retaining wall. I have some questions I would like to run by you.

First, is a flagstone retaining wall likely going to be strong enough to support this design? Or this destined to fail? I have an array of stones varying between 1-8 inches thick 1-2.5 ft wide and approximately 20-200 lbs. If this is possible, do you have any general recommendations on the design? For instance, should I dry stack them or should I use mortar or an adhesive between the stones during construction?

I really want the flagstone at the top to be flush with the patio and to protrude partially over the edge of the retaining wall. Maybe just a couple inches at most, so that it looks like one continuous patio with no border or break. To acheive this look I was planning to glue a cap stone that would be flush with the stone on the patio, and mortaring between the top layer of stones for a consistent look spanning the patio edge to edge.

Lastly, what do you recommend for drainage? I was thinking of doing 4-6 inches of 3/4 clear stone behind the retaining wall and a drain tile pipe at the bottom.

Your videos are very insightfuI! Love the great content! Hope to hear back from you!

  16. 2:50 – dear lord I wish my soil was able to just scoop out like that. Here in new england it's rock city. No easy digging with a straight shovel unfortunately

  17. Good guide, but for anything above 4 feet you need an engineer to sign off. A lot goes into the design of retaining walls, including soil and structural analysis. So a 2 foot diy wall, great vid, but if you want something higher, or that will retain a significant load, I'd suggest speaking to a technician or an engineer.
This is a great eye opener to how much work goes into these walls, looks like a lot of fun.

  18. Great effin job man. I’ve watched a couple of your videos. I’ve done the work here and there. Don’t listen or even comment on what the haters write here I don’t see them making these videos. Thanks for everything you do.

  19. im looking to build a wall about 4 feet high to eliminate a slope behind a slab pour garage can I do this with what is available at the big box stores I'm in upstate new york
