How to Connect up (Wire) our First BS1363 Single Socket Outlet to 2.5mm Twin & Earth (Twin and CPC)








How to connect up a single switch socket outlet to BS 1363 to a 2.5mm2 twin and CPC cable (twin and earth cable). We look at the importance of doubling cable ends and getting the correct conductor length within the box. L = Line and is Brown, N = Blue and is Blue and E = CPC circuit protective conductor (Earth). This is the first time we have wired up and connect up a BS 1363 socket outlet.

  1. I'm aware this video is very old but hoping anyone sees this and can answer, if im doing a socket on a ring circuit, so the L,N & Earth are coming back out of the box, should i still double over? I feel there might be a conflict of space with 2 wires doubled over in one hole.

  2. When terminating 2 or 3 cores into the same terminal, do you still double over your cables? Personally found, in my opinion, that it actually has the opposite effect in ensuring the terminal screw grips the copper in that scenario. End up putting one conductor on top of the other for lack of space due to doubling and the screw bites the top conductor but the roundness of the copper is not good for clamping the conductor underneath and can lead to loose connections and seems much safer to just have both conductors undoubled and side by side in the terminal so the screw grips them both equally. What is your advice for students who struggle fitting more than just one feed into terminals and especially with 4mm which seems to crop up a lot? Thanks.

  3. Good video. But you and I both know….no one uses an electricians knife to strip the ends. I’ve Never seen it done like that onsite in 20 years!

  5. The sockets in my house on the ring all seem to have the cables twisted together into ugly little bundles where they go into the socket, I wonder if that’s an old school way of doing it that’s not taught any more? Never looks very neat or reliable to me

  6. Excellent video as always Gaz. Did i read somewhere in 18th edition doubling up not necessary for multiple wires such as part of a ring final? Also i like to line up the doubled end flat so the terminal screw hits it smack on and not on end and cause some loose connections possibly.

  7. Very good Video, I've seen something similar in one of your older videos about doubling over the conductors, I know the camera was close but was the length of copper about 20 to 25 mm before doubling over.
