How to Race the Mile | Coaches Corner

Racing the mile falls into 4 acts
1 – Push
2 – Pace (settle, settle)
3 – Position (get ready)
4- Positivity (time to unload!)

Simply put, we’re covering the mile from every angle. How do we race it?

#1 rule – know your role! Are you a competitor or a player? That being said you’re always in the race but are you racing for a win and trying to race your rival and take the win? Are you racing the clock and trying to get a fresh PR?

Mindset is every thing!

When we talk about true strategy: Let’s talk about real pacing.
6:00 Milers: 1:30, 1:30, 1:28, 1:30 or even cut down that 4th lap. Try to make lap 3 your strongest!

5:00 milers – 1:15, 1:15, 1:14, 1:14

If you’re a stronger 2 miler – look to back half the race. If you’re an 800m runner, you can get our aggressive and hold the pace. If that strategy is hard for you. Start more like (1:17, 1:15, 1:15 1:13) if you have a strong ability to close for a 5:00 mile
