Guide to upgrading or fitting an M.2 SSD to the HP 250/255 G7 laptop, and how to upgrade or add a 2.5″ HDD or SSD to the system.
The laptops M.2 slot can take both SATA and PCIe NVME SSDs, such as the Samsung 970 Pro:
Adding a 2.5″ SSD or HDD to non-2.5″ bay equipped models requires the drive cable (L20456-001) and HDD Drive Board (L20454-001)

Hi, my son has a similar laptop ie hp 255 g7 but we're unable to turn it on. I suspect the battery or the dc jack connector is faulty any idea what kind of connector I should look for on ebay? Cheers
Can u upgrade the cpu to like a i7
I have a HP 250 G7 and the specifications from HP state that it comes with an M2 drive and and an SSD.. but what I see on my system is only one drive, and I can even hear the HDD spining around. My question is: can I add a drive to the M.2 port and replace the HDD with an SSD?
Why would a laptop have an hdmi port for a graphic card to output hd when the monitor's maximum resolution is only 1366×768?
What size screw do I need for the hard drive connector board and what size screws do I need for the hard drive on the metal brackets?
Thanks^^

Will it be out of warranty if I remove the screws?
Thanks a lot. Whith your heIp, I installed a WD SN550 Blue in my HP. Now is faster!!!
This video was crucial for my upgrade. I bought one of these since it was heavily discounted and had nice specs, but the wireless internet chip it had, a raeltek, is apparently notoriously bad, so I switched it out with an old one, worked like a charm!
For the ones who faint when looking at the prices for board and cable: I just installed a "LS-G072P / 4350M932L01" Board & Cable ("compatible with hp15-da hp15-db"). It cost me around 20€ and it works just fine for me with a 2.5" SSD. Thanks for the video, btw!
Edit: My Laptop is a HP 250 G7

Can i mount a ssd 2,5" in the optical drive bay space? Does it have a sata port?
I bought a Sabrent M.2 SSD to 2.5-Inch SATA III Aluminum Enclosure Adapter (EC-M2SA) from Amazon. I have 2 Crucial MX500 M.2 500 GB SSD’s (One was already laying around and the other one is already installed in the Laptop). Once I put in the Adapter, can I fit 2 of those SSD’s in the enclosure for the computer to have 2 SSD’s?
Can I upgrade this laptop to 16gb ram
Sorry stupid question here but I have been a Linux user all my life but I am starting my own business and am forced to get a windows machine now. If I upgrade to SSD must I re purchase windows again?
How difficult is it to replace the keyboard, and what I should i be paying in terms of labour. Also several shops sell them – which supplier do you deem as reputable.
Hp laptop 250 G7
I like the old laptops where stuff was so easily replaceable from bottom. HDD? Unscrew the cover, pop-out the old one pop-in new one, screw cover back on done. RAM? Same. Battery? Now that's best, Unlock, press, swap. Yeah! You're running low on battery? Put in another one! Full again.
Thickness? A bit more. Weight? Also.
I/O ports? Yes. That's enough of answer.
Keyboard? It actually clicks and travels.
Dusty fan? Remove it's bottom cover and clean it. Easy.
Repair something else? Unscrew bottom screws, get in.
Sir I have bought the variant with 256gb SSD
Is it possible to add one more SSD to it ?
Does this laptop have extra slot to support two seperate SSD ??
Hi Brue 🙂
I am planning on upgrading the WiFi card to an Intel Ax200 but I have heard that some HP laptops have BIOS whitelists. Can you confirm if this model does/doesn't have BIOS whitelist? Thanks
Is this laptop upgrade upto 16gb ram?
Sir, Does it support m.2 nvme ssd or m.2 sata ssd ? (urgent please)
🙂
cen you add link to the caddy or part nomber
Thank you so much! This video helped me a lot.
Thanks for this my friend. What kind of sdd suit in 255 G7? nve? m2? ill upgrade one this weekend.
This laptop is basically empty. A piece of platic.
I think that Hp should put this video to their official support channel since there is no good explanation on this matter, nearly all Hp laptop users (including me until very short while ago) don't even know that they can add second hdd via hdd connector board replacement or cable into their laptops which come with default m2 ssd, thanks for this super helpful video!
Support ssd nvme?
why not turn on turn on and show performance.
Hi, do you think it's possible to repaste this laptop? i.e. do you think it's possible to dismount the heatpipe in there without breaking it?
Thx for answer in advance and have a great day.
I've just got my hands on the a4 9125 model with 120GB SSD. I'm considering upgrading with an Nvme drive and though I haven't got it open yet I'm 99% sure it's SATA like in your video. What are the chances of an Nvme SSD working in that slot? And given there are Nvme versions of this laptop, would that be an assurance of booting from Nvme? Cheers
HP should stop making upgrades this hard…
Opening a Lenovo is just removing screws.
Can you share us how to setup windows for it
Biggest disatvanges of this laptop-no SATA connector for HDD and non removable battery!
So u say i can install an NVMe SSD in there & i would hav no compatibility issues.
However, would i need to manually go into the BIOS & change the settings to PCIe as opposed to SATA to make sure it will run at the native NVMe SSD speeds?
Can i upgrade graphic card
Is there any cheaper alternative to that £45 drive connector?
