Broforce is pretty good for something similar.
Huntdown is a fantastic gameplay combination of Rolling Thunder, Elevator Action Returns, and Blackthorne. I totally love this game.
Great game, really enjoyed it. It has some influences from european computer games to it and although that's usually not my type of game it played really well. The atmosphere is top notch on this game, especially the music!
I recently bought Huntdown and it's brilliant! Great review and just a heads up, there's an awesome easter egg cameo that you have to discover.
I hesitated between Huntdown and Monster Sanctuary.
Monster Sanctuary was also awesome, next I'll play this one 🙂

I had the opportunity to play an early version of this at a convention. At that time the focus was on co-op, so I played it with my brother. I believe the levels were large open city areas where you had to search for the bosses. It was pretty fun, if a bit confusing. The most unique thing back then as that you could revive your partner any number of times, as long as one of you lived. But the final game is surely the way to go!
Known about this game for ages but waiting for it to drop in price as my backlog of games is huge….. the game looks mint!

Oh yeah, you pretty much summed this one up perfectly. I first played Huntdown digitally on PS4 in 2020 and wondered where the hell was the coverage on this amazing game. I've played MANY great Run & Guns and this has become a standard for what a great one should be. Huntdown is exactly what a Modern/Retro game should be, and the sort of new game I look for in a world of "Triple-A" anticipation and games having to meet "Next-Gen" standards. It's a top 10 game for me from the last 5 years.

Oh yes this game is freaking awesome, I got this on release day, for some reasons it flew under the radar of a lot of people.

I don’t think I’ve used the word “gibs” in ages. But it certainly applies here.
I love this game so much I bought it digitally when it first came out then the physical when it was finally released! There are so many little graphical touches and the sprite work is excellent. It didn't bother me that the sprites were a bit smaller. I can't wait to see what this developer does next.

Well yeah you pretty much summed up the game in the title 😺 I played this at a game convention as early as 2015, they had a arcade cabinet especially designed for the game….that was pure awesomeness!!!
Platformers are really off my table lately, the sprite is always made too small now, the camera too far out. Playing on the switch handheld compounds that even more, for me.
Gravity circuit, Curse of the moon, or Blazing Chrome have excellent Sprite-to-screen ratio, my eyes cant do smaller than that
