Inside Afghanistan: A Year Of Taliban Rule

The U.S. military withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021, marking the end of a 20-year war. As the Taliban returned to power, it seemed like the rest of the world was ready to help. But after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, some Afghans feel abandoned and forgotten by the international community. A year after America’s withdrawal, Afghans tell Vice News what life is really like under Taliban rule.

  1. “This is not a 3rd world country THIS IS EUROPE!! Only blond blue eyes matters!! Hilarious words from people working in communication. Sending love and light to Afganistán 🇦🇫

  2. It's interesting when the Talibsn representative speaks of women being sisters and mothers and yet did the not kill women for not following their rules. Is that how you would treat your family?

  3. As harsh as it may seem that the world seemed to be forget about Afghanistan… we must understand that We and Allie’s where there for more than 15+ years and we tried to train and help the government but corruption and the incompetence of the government leaders to make a formidable Army to fight against the taliban is what led to there fall… it’s not Ukraine where they are fighting for there country and holding there own with a understanding on making there economy strong and having a formidable armed forces

  4. Wow, the utter disrespect these people have to be outraged that the invasion of Ukraine is making it harder for Afghans to flee to Europe. What a disgusting kind of journalism.
Europe should prioritize Europeans, especially ones that are suffering the worst conflict happening globally.
Afghanistan's fate should be left to the Afghans who are determined enough to stay and do something about it.

  5. Human rights are just for Europeans, so right to the point. Western world with its fkng double standards

  6. The way this US administration handled the withdrawal was a disaster to say the least… Its not that it didnt need to be done, it was how it was done. Leaving billions in weapons and equipment shows a deeper agenda.

  8. Very sad to see. Afghanistanis has the worlds largest exodusof people seen in decades and the largest humanitarian crisis in modern history , yet Ukraine is a active war zone while Afghanistan is the new North Korea. It's a corrupt government not a war. It's the after of war and they do need help but its a horrible comparison. Ones of religion gone crazy and the others crazy for power and resources. Imo.

  9. I have a question from American politicians? Why, why, why did you just give my country back to the greatest trurist? what did children and women do? shame on you.

  10. The people of Afghanistan have chosen their path all by themselves. It's sad for the people who dissent, but ultimately majority rules and the majority support the terroists.

  11. Unfortunately that part about the world caring more about a democratic European country over a third world middle eastern country will stay the same now. I mean so many people not just here in the US but all the countries that went with us to fight the “War on terror” are completely over trying to solve the problems in the Middle East. America being the number one superpower in the world abandoning its mission has had an enormous impact on the way the rest of the world views the Middle East. If the most powerful country in the world with the most powerful military known to man, couldn’t help Afghanistan. Why should another country try? And I hate to say but even most of my friends here when I ask them about what they think about the Middle East now. The notion is usually toward more “Screw them, we tried to help them but they didn’t want our help. And we lost lives over it. No more.” People are simply done with the Middle East. I mean not even with humanitarian help but also the views in combat are completely favored towards going to Ukraine instead of going back to the Middle East. I asked one of my veteran friend, a marine who did two tours in Afghanistan about what he thinks about all the US veterans going to Ukraine to fight that war. And his answer was simply, we know who we are fighting for and against. In Afghanistan you didn’t know who wanted you to be there and who didn’t, in Ukraine you know, they’re people like you who wants a democratic country. In Afghanistan you didn’t know who your enemy was, you didn’t know if it was the farmer down the street or the corrupt ANA soldier who claimed to be on your side but the moment you turn your back they shot at you. In Ukraine you know, you know that it’s the guy with Ukrainian flag on his arm, you also knew who your enemy was, it was the guy obviously in a Russian uniform. We know, that’s the difference with Ukraine and Afghanistan. And that’s all it is.

  12. Meh Afghanistan can die off sorry but not sorry if the military didn't abandoned their own people this can be voided but they chose not to fight Afghanistan is always a going to be a terrorism country that housed ISIS/ISIS-k or other terrorist organization

  13. One difference, the Ukraine government and some ucranians are fighting the russians, but in Afghanistan nobody even tried fighting the talibans and the government ceased to exist in 24 hours.
This is what happens when the people are not united and they don't fight- the talibans win by default.

  14. I only hope that American – liberals and progressive feminists watch this video. We Americans are not perfect, but we have good.

  15. Majority of Afghans has no heart to fight! 20 years and gone in just in one day unlike Ukraine who are fighting for their freedom . And yes some news reporters are downright racist especially sky news, but this doesn't take away your will to fight which afghans don't have. Western countries literally stationed there and trained for 20 years, you had all the support you need and I believe afghans do not have desire to be a democratic country. Still if there's something you can show or demonstrate, I'm pretty sure USA and EU will help just as they're doing in Ukraine

  16. The difference between the Ukrainian War and the Afghan War is the population in Ukraine have chosen to fight, everyone has a choice to make in times of Desperation and War. It just seems all these Middle Eastern counties would rather run away and not fight for their country. All the video footage of people trying to flee last year, 90% of them were middle aged men, all the refugees are 90% men. Why are these men not standing up and fighting like we are seeing in Ukraine? People are not willing to help those who are not willing to help themselves

  17. U.S signed the surrender deal in doha without the government they propped up for 20 years, released 5000 hardcore taliban, cut support for the army and they then run away. They watch as taliban broke every condition in the deal, and now even reward them with discouraging resistance against them. But its always the afghans fault.
And how can you say afghans didnt fight when we lost over 100k army members and so much got injured in the past 20 years? the last offensive saw 4000 army members get killed in the space of 3 months, fighting the same international terrorist that U.S fought. thats more then the number of U.S services members that were killed (2.5K) in the last 20 years.

  18. I have difficulty sympathizing with the people who are saying that racism is the reason why people are supporting Ukraine but not Afghanistan. The West gave the Afghan people all the resources they could possibly hope for for nearly two decades and the Afghan government folded to a rag-tag insurgency in only a few weeks.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainians held their ground against one of the most powerful militaries in the world (on paper, at least) while not receiving even a tenth of the aid that Afghanistan had received.

The Ukrainians demonstrated they were willing to fight for the liberal ideals that define Western society, despite being underequipped for the fight. The Afghans did not, despite having all the materiel and funding they could possibly hope for. It's that simple. If you couldn't get your act together despite the West holding the ceiling up for twenty years, why should we think you'll suddenly turn things around the next time we come?

You had your window. We kept it wide open for two decades. You squandered it. Too bad.

  19. The reason no cares about the Afghans is the fact they ran and after 20 years gave up within two weeks. The Ukrainian stood and fought the Afghans just ran and now expect us to still help them. That guy is full of crap they started the fighting with 9/11. Terror won the war on terror, let them enjoy terror. Give those who are willing to fight for themselves the means to do so and support. The Afghans just stole the money raped boys played both sides and took the cowards way out and now they want help after 20 years.

  20. i understand that the afghan people are basically forgotten but i mean their houses are being fucking bombed 24/7 it’s different it’s war against the people there and in ukraine it’s war against countries not the people

  21. It is easy to blow up a hospital. It’s much harder to build one. The taliban no longer has the luxury of just destroying anymore. Other factions will begin to claw at them if they can’t deliver
