Today’s phones are hard to put down. Push notifications buzz in your pocket, red bubbles demand attention, and endless distractions sit at your fingertips. It can feel impossible to pull away from. But that’s kind of the point. When people talk about the “attention economy,” they’re referring to the fact that your time and attention are the currency on which today’s applications make money. Because apps profit off of the total time you spend on their platform, there’s a strong incentive to use psychological tricks to keep you endlessly hooked. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Tristan Harris, who runs Time Well Spent, is working to create a world where platforms can more honestly respect their users’ time.

  1. It’s true – apps constantly keep us hooked, they just grab our attention and there’s no way to escape fully, if you still want to be in society nowadays. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s almost unreal to reduce the amount of time we spend looking at screen because we work via them, communicate, entertain ourselves and etc. Some ideas from this video sound new to me, especially advice to take off the color in settings. Never thought about this one but I’m going to try it and observe myself if there're any positive changes, so thank you

  2. The problem lies with all the apps that all companies want you to have, thus relying on your phone for everything! Duh! That starts with Google and Apple pay where you must have your phone to purchase things. No more actual debit or credit cards or cash!

  3. "it's not you"
Yes it is you. Stop blaming everyone and everything but you for your inability to control yourself.

  4. I've had my phone/iPad set to silent notification for years now. The only things that may make a sound are calls and Whatsapp messages. I don't get the people that would leave it on. I'll just have emails pile up silently and check them out the next time I pick up my iPad or whatever.

  5. The web itself is probably more addicting than phones. I don't use my phone at all, but I still find myself in front of my monitor more than I would like.

  6. NONE of the above..the addiction rises the level of endorphines in your brains reward centre. Its up to YOU to put the phone down, which we know you wont, because you are afraid of missing something. Instead just talk physically to someone. Good luck, you WILL need it. Its UP to YOU!

  7. Is there an update with the new time options Meta has added to Facebook and Instagram? They are super helpful for me.

  8. I'm looking for a easy way to learn about technology. I am elderly and don't know much about this. I have a smartphone that I have been using but I spend many hours trying to figure out everything by trail and error, lots of errors. I have a little bit of knowledge but I want to have the right information so I'm not on my phone for hours just to get a job done. Any advice? Thanks for sharing your knowledge

  9. wel i don't have that probelm…….., some times i wonder why my sister keeps glued to the phone, there's nothing to look at there, except the clock & notification from my boss

  10. First day as a greyscale user, my present screentime is 5hr 45mins let's see in 7days how low it becomes
    Wish me good luck 🍀

  11. Youtube shorts for people with short attention spans. Just check out the woman seeking attention with their bodies.
