The Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice Broadway collaboration gets the Hollywood treatment from director Norman Jewison with a format inspired by Shakespeare’s “Henry V.” In this version, a traveling troupe performs the rock opera in the Israeli desert. Texas rocker Ted Neeley stars as Jesus with Carl Anderson as Judas. Webber, Andre Previn and Herb Spencer shared an Oscar nomination for Best Score Adaptation.

I went to see this movie when I was young.I am now 66yrs old now and I have always loved Ted Neeley who played Jesus Christ in This amazing movie.HEe is a Ausome actor and I love all the other actors too and It sad that the man who played Judus in this movie passed on.He had a Amazing voice.I just love this movie so much.I am a Born Christian and I love God so much.I truly hope that Ted Neely and everyone else stay Blessed with God always.Thank you again for bringing back your Amazing movie so that others can enjoy this Amazing experience watching it is.   16. I left Christianity in the Spring of 1975, having been raised Catholic. However, I still think of Jesus as one of the Great Teachers. This film, and the stage play, are masterpieces of telling the story of the struggles he had accepting what was thrust on him by others.

  17. I was born in 1979. There was nothing if any talk about this show. I’ve never seen it. I have heard it’s straight up blasphemy and suggests that Jesus had some sort of romantic relationship with Mary Magdalene. I probably never will watch it because of that’s what’s in it it is blasphemy and I don’t do blasphemy. I’ve sort of always wondered what it was about but for some reason I’m afraid to. I think that’s Gods way of telling me not to and the times I still think I’d like to watch it are the times satan is tempting me to go against Gods directions. I may be wrong but I have 7 older brothers I do the only girl and they say they sort of remember it coming out. We are devout Roman Catholic and they said they remember our parents told the other ones not to even ask to go. So I have never gone I guess I’ll never know and I’m okay with that. For whatever reason God wishes me not to see it so all I need to do is reject satan and his temptation and obey God. I talk to Him a lot, He let’s me know if I should not do something

I was introduced to this album:Broadway show/film by my Aunt Bee she had the original album on cassette great songs in the film I like I don’t know how to love him What’s the Buzz Heaven on their Minds King Herod’s song and Superstar

  27. this religion is speculation, the bibles are filled with demon temptations accepted as divine intervention centuries old which is why so many different bibles have existence, throughout every religion and creed there are more weeds than grains within them all accepted into belief systems due to temptation which is why the evolution is so uncannily, divisive, dangerous, greedy, and the lust of woman and man tempted to overpopulate the earth with environmental terrorism and to destroy equality and true love as humans have given into entirely to much evil religiously and nonreligiously due to temptation as evil will feeble the mind furthermore as much as the soul will accept and allow themselves to become, true evil has been accepted into the world as humane, and righteous while gave it the title god, because of this evil has taken advantage of the creation throughout the creation due to temptation becoming 1 with the mindset throughout waves however much the soul accepts, a grain is sheep will follow the flocks as the creation does for an example, evil has been mistaken as god, gods, spirit, savior, universe, spiritual guide for centuries old, jesus is devieved as jesus is no god other than a demon taking the form as a god playing a higher role it is not as humans accepted due to misguidance and temptation, jesus is only but 1 of the many different versions of the demon, jesus is used to misguide humans furthermore into failure, and furthermore from the true soul purposes while here temporarily while being tested upon trust to see if the soul can rise above evil within the mindset first and foremost while know the difference between the many weeds from the very little grains accepted and kept throughout spiritual guidance, because evil has been accepted into the world as normal evil has taken the creation far from the primordial truth while misguided humans for centuries as this is no exaggeration or belief this is the truth that is unknown to humans due to temptation. the demon will help humans fail their soul purposes however much a soul will allow it for example helping humans obtain wealth which is evil due to paper money is a physical pandemic accepted as normal yet is truly slavery, humans are tempted into working hard furthermore from equality, and unity to obtain paper as paper become more important than flesh and blood itself, humans kill, fight and destroy to obtain money, as greed is why poverty and crime have the existence they both have within the world, the temptation will tempt the minds of humans otherwise, yet the evolution speaks and shows for itself daily. there are many physical pandemics in the world accepted as normal and humane, because evil humans do not understand that true wisdom has always been peace, equality, and unity, evil has convinced humans that worldwide peace is a myth as humans oblige the temptation. the peace spoken of Jesus is not of Jesus as Jesus is a demon in disguise a true enemy to this planet and the creation, the peace belongs to other gods of light that the demon use their guidance in its own favor to lure humans into its many deceptions spiritually and physically, which is why the demon shows envy to other divinity only a demon behaves in a manner of such, the demon can take any shape and form on including the divine and family members that crossover only to furthermore manipulate and misguide, the demon is determined to destroy the planet while helping make souls fail their soul purposes only to be shunned from paradise. the image of Jesus is of the ancient god Hercules but because of temptation Hercules's truth was changed, destroyed, and rewritten into myths while the demon Jesus stole Hercules's image and guidance of peace using in its own favor throughout the manipulation. as there is no such thing as a sacrifice this temptation was only designed to mislead humans into sin at more ease as evil guided themselves furthermore. those who allow and accept evil to work, behave, and become themselves physically while helping evil shape reality will always receive mysterious consequences mentally and physically while also experiencing mysterious physical consequences, those receiving penalties know, feel, and experience them all the time, due to the misguidance in the world of human studies many of the mental consequences are known as mental disorders, yet the demon has this advantage also upon the mind depending on how much evil the human accepts apart of themselves. this is also why the demon tempted its followers not to believe in what is known as karma due to it wanted to mislead humans. if you allow the temptation to view this awareness as a long pointless rant then that will be your own choice to accept. remember consequences do follow true evil, as the real rants are the many weeds throughout all religions and creeds of every culture, the soul is nothing without true honor and knowledge

  37. Saw the stage performance of JCS 3 times, and the last time was with Ted Neeley, who plays Jesus in this movie version. Even at his age then (2006 or7), he could still hit those high notes. Always makes me cry at the end. This movie is great.

  40. So many amazing memories of the original 1973 version with Ted Neely. Every Good Friday through High School my siblings, friends, and I would act out and sing every song. It was amazing and very emotional. We all loved it including my Mom (R.I.P.❤️) who looked forward to watching us every year.

  44. This is a very powerful story for me, especially around Easter. I am fascinated by the relationship between Jesus, Mary Magdalene and Judas. If you're really interested, watch the "Close your eyes" scene with that trio. Judas betrays Jesus in this story and eventually commits suicide. In this scene I think Jesus convinces Judas to follow Jesus and trust.

    He betrays Jesus, but in some versions of this story he is portrayed as a hero (Example, William Defoe in 1984 version). I think he fills his role and is a hero. When Jesus and Judas hold hands, Judas believes they're blood brothers (Cain doesn't kill Abel). Maybe he's reincarnated through Simon who's supposed to be an actual brother of Jesus. Really deep stuff anyway.

    "I am hypnotized by your destiny". "There's no way to describe what you do to me… I've been set free". Figure that out. Still blows my mind.
