Largest tornado ever recorded? 2.5 miles wide! Hallam, Nebraska 2004

**From the TVN storm chasing vault!** On May 22, 2004, TVN storm chasers Reed Timmer and Dean Schoeneck documented the massive Hallam, Nebraska tornado. The 2.5 mile-wide F-4 monster was so large, and partially obscured by rain, that the two were actually overtaken by the tornado at one point during their escape out of the path, making an unintentional direct intercept. They were VERY lucky to come out unharmed! Up until El Reno, OK tornado of May 31, 2013 was documented at 2.6 miles wide, the Hallam tornado held the record for the widest path, at least since records began in 1955.
