Lay the field – Betfair trading strategies – Automate it on Bet Angel

Lay the field is a popular Betfair trading strategy and with Bet Angel you can do this manually or fully automatically.

By laying the field at odds of 2.00 you are looking for two selections to get matched at that price to break even, more and you profit. You need 3 at 3.00 and 4 and 4.00 and so on.

In this video we demonstrate how to do this manually and fully automatically using Bet Angel. We use horse racing in this example but there are many suitable markets.

Remember to always use practice mode when you are testing new strategies, so you can get to fully understand how each one performs and manifests itself in different markets and situations. betfair spreadsheet

  1. I have used this several times over the last couple of days and when two have got matched at the same odds 1.6 the pay-out was not even, for example £25 " 1.5 winner – £12.50, other horse £25.00 should be a balance of £12.50 profit buy only getting half of that if I am lucky

  2. I'd say you're wrong about a forth horse going under 3.0 giving you a £30 profit.
Wouldn't it be £10 less commission?

  3. Hey mate. I really like this idea. They do say the bookie always wins. Would you avoid races with an odds on favourite?

  4. Hello
Tell me please. Why? after I made settings like in the video, all selected markets is suspended after start. I do in a practice mode. Thank you

  5. lay the field is just impossible you may get 1 race in 10 were you will get 3 matched tried it the other day I had 2 races out of 15 matched and lost money

  6. I have done lay the field and its very difficult to make any profit you lose on the winner then you got to get another 3 matched to make anything to risky

  7. How does this system perform generally? I imagine there'll be some losses and quite a few break evens & do you only do this in hurdles and chases or can it also be implemented on the flat? Cheers Peter for the videos

  8. Your last statement is incorrect. You say that you'd have won £30 if any of the other runners had won, but as they would also have been layer at 3.0 if they'd won, you'd have only made £10 (minus commission).

  9. Hi Peter I'm sorry to ask this question here but I'm new to Bet angel and think it's fantastic. I've registered for the forum but there doesn't seem to be an option to post a question only to browse previous topics. my query is I tried to do exactly what you did in the video about laying the field automatically. I tried to apply it to markets I'd placed in guardian but when race time arrived the bets didn't activate. I've done something wrong but is there a way the support team can look at my account and advise.

  10. Hi All,

Can someone answer this question for me? 😀

I'd like to know which kind of horse racing markets are more likely to get 4+ horses matched at 3.00 with these settings. Hcap, Hrd..etc.

I think the shorter races like 5.6.7 furlongs are too quick for odds to settle down to get many matched in time.

    I could be wrong.

    Hope you can help 😀

  11. Hi Peter, really interesting video, and I have tested this out today. I ran into trouble when a market i selected from the list in a USA race did not offer in-play on that race, and so keep on play rule obviously didn't kick in. Is there a way to narrow down races via BetAngel in Guardian to list in-play races only?.

  12. I think if you had rules and systems already set up for quick access would be great , I find myself just getting confused everytime I try and mess with guardian. would be great if we only had to play with odds and stakes .

  13. Hi there went to aautomate the above .iT WAS EASY until the drop down box did not have KEEP BETS IN RUNNING.
    I was on Betdaq,any answers

    Robert

  14. Peter I have a question regarding practice mode. Because your bet is not into the exchange, how accurate is the outcome vs a real bet being picked up by a trader or a bot? I am unmatched in Australian Racing however if the bet was in the market do you have the stats on it being picked up?

  15. i wish to bet on the uk betfair market using my australian account. It that still possible with betangel, it seems like the box you had to check/uncheck is now gone.

  16. When I try to lay the field manually a pop up comes up that's long big for the screen. Then I have to restart my computer and not place the bet. What do I do?

  17. Awesome video man, I was just wondering, what is your win % with this strategy? You broke even here but how often do you get 4 or more horses matched at $3?

  18. Keep up the great work Peter. To me you could not explain things any better than you do. This stuff is a bit complicated at the best of times and there is sometimes no real easy or simple way to explain it. I like this idea of laying the field and will give it a go with low stakes to try it out. Is it best with a certain number of runners would you say? I've been trading a year or so now and to be honest have had good and bad days (of course) but not really making any significant gains long-term for the time I put in. For me, what I would really like is for you to create an e-book or 'video series' explaining some of the harder to understand things to do with reading the market and/or graphs etc. In one of your videos you mentioned that due to your analysis (or similar description) you expect the price on the horse you had laid to go up, but you said it was too complicated to explain how you came to this conclusion for the video you was making at the time. You had a large sum of cash trading this horse and sure enough the price did go up and you cashed out with a very nice profit to say the least.. An e-book or series of videos would be great and pretty safe too as I doubt any of us beginners/intermediates would threaten your living in any way as the market is just too big. Anyway sorry to ramble on, but a big thank you for the inspirational videos, ideas and strategies you share, great stuff. And by the way I've tried other software and none match up to bet angel, many thanks. Paul C

  19. Hy I tried to use this system ,and I did all settings like you but is not working ,doesn't want keep the bets and my bets just gone from the window……can you explain to me the correct settings please.

  20. Lay the field can work on a number of markets but is typically used in-play as that is where the biggest movement in odds can occur.

  21. the trouble is getting matched at yr chosen odds–anyhow wanted to ask how one can make a profit in horse racing PRE MATCH just backing high and laying low- to secure a profit no matter what the outcome of the race is cheers

  22. Not once you get used to it. We could implement a much more complicated version of this but opted for a simpler version so people could implement it. If you use practice mode you can play around while you get used to it.
