Expensive gas causes people to drive less, carpool, take public transportation and buy fuel efficient /EV cars and trucks. High oil prices increases the cost of consumer goods, which causes people to buy less crap they don’t actually need to survive or be happy. It drives research in new technologies, efficiency, recycling. If governments stopped subsidizing the welfarist farmed animal industry and supported essential foods like legumes, quinoa, veggies and fruits these foods would be more affordable and there’d be less water consumption, pollution, climate change and suffering for billions of animals. People in the Global North consume too many resources. Expensive gas is a good thing. Not saying we can’t have fun, including travel and camping. But that, high energy prices can eventually lead to a human society that does less harm to Earth and each other.
