With appreciation to the family of Margaret Bonds.
Elena O’Connor, Soprano, and Madrigalia present
“Especially Do I Believe in the Negro Race”
from Margaret Bonds’ CREDO (1965-1967)

Text by W. E. B. Dubois:
Especially do I believe in the Negro race;
in the beauty of its genius,
the sweetness of its soul,
and its strength in that meekness that shall yet
inherit this turbulent earth.

  1. The melody is beautiful, but I can't understand a single word Elena O'Connor is singing. Fortunately,
    I can understand the chorus.
