  1. It's not under monetized. You could argue that WotC isn't monetizing it a lot, only really selling books and some other items, but the product itself produces a lot of value overall. You get shops selling D&D stuff, DM's for hire, D&D shows, Homebrews etc. There is so much money generated with D&D overall. WotC are angry that it's not all going to them. Part of what makes it so great is that there is more power in the hands of smaller businesses and people D&D. Now they're trying to be Disney of Tabletops.

  2. Fun fact about the 30th anniversary. Hasbro offered it to multiple game stores across the nation after it didn't sell in their store. My one friend who owns a game store in Chicago got offered the 30th anniversary set and refuse to take them because no one wants to buy them

  3. The OGL changes aren’t just greedy, they’re stupid. These businessbro types think all the value is in the IP because that frame of mind is what benefits them the most, the reality is an IP is worthless without all the people making and advertising a product to carry the IP. Yes it was beneficial to use D&D as a common starting point for accessibility and name recognition, but only because it was free. It wasn’t undermonetized, being free to use was what made people gravitate toward and stick with it, the money deserves to go to the people that do the work, and Hasbro should be grateful they didn’t have to pay wages for all that talent and experimentation. It’s easy to fixate on the successes but they also would have been bearing the cost of the failures, taking both into consideration they really didn’t miss out on much if anything.

Don’t play into the corporate narrative, their IP ownership is worthless and the work of individuals building up the brand on their own terms is what they need to be grateful for. Know your role Hasbro, and shut your greedy, entitled, whiney mouths.

  4. Underground black market free D&D sessions are gonna be hype.
"Wanna commit a crime kiddo? Roll for stealth!"

  5. So, after the backlash, Hasbro backed off. It looks like WotC was trying keep the original OGL, but Hasbro was pushing for the new 1.1 (what’s covered in this video).

They didn’t outright say “Yeah, we were wrong! Sorry.” It was more “We’re revisiting the new OGL” yadda yadda.

So, for now, we’re in the clear. But I doubt the battle is over. Shoutout to Charlie and the other YTers for calling them out on their shit

  6. Way to kill your brand lol. There are hundreds of ttrpg out there and I foresee them getting a huge bump in new players. I don't see this going the way WotC thinks it's going to go. They've pretty much killed the golden goose.

  7. Companies like Tactical Adventures (made Solasta), maybe critical role, Larian Studios (Baldur's Gate 3) are all under contract with WOTC to legally use their ruleset for their games and protected by the OGL, potentially.

  8. 5th edition D&D was created on the backbones of the previous editions going back to Gary Gygax. They never set out to make a perfect game, you cannot. Not with a game like D&D. You need feedback and that's where you look towards the community. I imagine a majority of TP content creators looked at the potential to build off what has existed and enjoy the game through their eyes. That's what 5e was all about, that's why pathfinder was created.
I see why they need to monetize D&D but they shit on the community that made this game.

  9. There is an amazon Alexa skill based on d&d, idk if there making revinue but I've spent countless hours on it. I'd hate to see it taken down

  10. Oopsies, we rolled a one. Rolled 16 on Hide OGL in Shadows and rolled ANOTHER 16 for their Delayed Blast Money Grab when they'll pull this stunt again until it muscles through like micro-transactions.

  11. Very little of the DND me and my friends play is vanilla. My DM spends so much time crafting his stories and world and characters that I could not imagine a DND campaign from wizards/hasbro ever living up to it

  12. I know when I want to see a video about D&D, I go to charlie's channel. Seriously, this is low hanging fruit. Can't you upload something 200 people haven't already done?

  13. DD is a hobby that can easily cost someone thousands of dollars if they are serious about the game. How do they think its under monetized when they are charging $50 for campaign books, $10-30+ for miniatures and loads of other merchandise.
