  1. They better not trade him. Especially since they have the gimmick of bringing back old players from the ws who are bad now like Doolittle and Sanchez yet you're going to get rid of the young guy who's already won it and can build a team around him. What happened with the quick rebuild Rizzo? And our ownership is trying to sell the team. Our ws mvp got a big ol contract and has pitched maybe 12 innings since. Dumpster fire but the fred Nats are a good time. Single a affiliate in virgina check em out jomboy

  2. The Nationals should stop holding that man hostage and just trade him to a great team like Dodgers, Yankees , cardinals etc! Why hold him back for November? He brought ya a ring ! The Nationals are being petty !!

  3. Terrible farm system, terrible team. They'd be idiots not to trade him at highest value at this point. Zero chance they become contenders again before he leaves in free agency for nothing.

  4. 1. The original report early in the season was that the Nats feel they need to trade Soto at this deadline. That went away because Nats sources said it wasn't true, likely because they planned on taking another shot at offering him a contract.
    2. At that time when we were all speculating about a Soto trade, what was going around on some Nats podcasting and social media shows from people with insider contacts was that the owner really wants out from under this franchise and sees resolving the Soto situation now a must.
    3. Now that Soto is available those original reports have proven accurate.
    4. Buster Olney and Tim Kurtjian both say that they've now separately heard the same thing from Nats insiders; that this trade is happening at this deadline because the owner wants out from under this franchise, and sees Soto's fate as holding up buyers who want to know what they're buying.
    5. Now there are reports that at least one prospective buyer says they want Soto on the roster if they buy the team. But the calculation the owner seems to be making is that this is not the view of most potential buyers, and there's not much leverage in keeping Soto if there's only one buyer on the market, and the rest shy away because they don't want to buy a team with a star player they wont be able to resign.

The Nats may not HAVE to trade Soto now. But they have to trade Soto now,

  5. There are a lot of foolish reports out there, such as Soto to the Mets for Alvarez, Baty, Vientos, plus. Soto's actually only a 5-6 WAR DH on the Mets, with a surplus value around $38m for the next 2 years versus his likely arb awards. If the Nats wait for the offseason, $38m isn't quite Alvarez's projected value for his first 6 MLB seasons. I get wanting the moon for a great hitter, but Soto is not close to peak Trout or Betts.
