As the drought continues to ravage many parts of the country, over 100,000 people in Nyeri county, majority from Kieni are in dire need of food aid with both food and cash crop farmers feeling the pinch of the drought. Nyeri county has been listed as one of the counties in the alert phase. And as Martin Munene reports, the locals are calling on the government to intervene and ease their pain.

Not to worry everything will be fine. We are starving to death and running out of water but we are working vigorously to double the population every 20 years. We may not have anything to eat or drink but we will have a fresh supply of starving babies to parade for the television specials to bring in millions in aid. Am from Nyandarua county, and a whole sack of carrots we are selling at Ksh. 500, a whole sack of potatoes we are selling at Ksh 800 and currently there is no cabbage market so cabbages are flooding. We wish we could partner with the government to supply food to all counties that are receiving drought.
