  1. Ray, serious comment: life is really hard and stressful sometimes. Lots of pressures on all of us, seemingly. Being able to watch your attitude and craftsmanship most days is a real blessing. Seeing you approach your work with good humor makes me see that I can do the same thing, even on the hard days. Sorry for getting all mushy, but thanks for what you do. Sincerely.

  2. Pro tip for removing stuck rotors. Run a large bolt through the brake bracket bolt hole and thread a nut on the other side. Keep tightening until it pushes the rotor off. Super easy, no pounding

  3. Ray I ran across your channel while watching Eric O. And thought it was one of his videos then was confused but watched anyways and have been hooked since! Great job brotha!

  4. Good video as usual. I am a little surprised you didn't replace the rubber boots and the rusty slide pins. The boots are cheap and would likely seal better.

  5. Corey Walls says it all…and so enjoyable to watch…I just wish Ray lived and worked in Raleigh….I found a mechanic I can love…MEGA talented and great sense of doing the RIGHT THING!

  6. You folks are SPOILED. Up north here, we FILE the rust off of the caliper bracket, and it, and the retainer clips get brake grease to minimize the rust for the next time. Oh yeah, and on the rotor hat so the wheel is able to come off without the use of a BFH!

  7. VW and their triple squares. My 1972 VW bus used them for the driveshaft bolts which is evil if you don't know what they are. The bolts are usually full of dirt and oil so easy to mistake as an allen head or torx. Nice to see they are consistently annoying with their fasteners. Its as if the manufactures sit down and decide that they all need to have a fastener that they are going to adopt. VW triple square. BMW motorcycles Torx. Then there's Apple who find the most obscure sizes and shapes possible.

  8. You talk about refrigerant and the need to be trained, I’m a radio ham, we have a licence to operate and work upon microwave radio equipment but we are not allowed to work on microwave ovens.

  9. You be careful spraying that brake cleaner on your bare hands. I did it for 47 years and now I am an old man with bare hands, no cancer, and very opinionated. Guess it's a good thing I wasn't a lab rat living in California… then again, why am I making comments?

  10. What a POS ,,,,,,TY,,,,,,WOW incredible very interesting super kool ,1st class great info.,, AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work.

  11. I would be embarrassed to bring my car to anyone looking like a rolling trashcan. Did you see the filth on the shift boot?

  12. I use to own a 2008 VW GTI, and I know from experience that Volkswagens have electrical issues. Headlights, fog lights, blinkers, rear hatch, etc… Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge VW fan. But there known for issues such as this! Oh, and head gaskets, and timing issues as well. Especially on the FSI motors.

  13. I swear, some mechanics just like to over torque bolts on, just to bust the nuts of the next guy!
My wife's 2010 Camry oil canister required an 18" breaker bar and over 80 lbs force to get off. So much for "hand tight" and a little more. I replaced the paper cartridge filter and O-ring, and re-tightened it at about 5 foot-pounds, and guess what? No oil leaks! Why did the previous shop tighten to over 100 foot-pounds???? ( "Well help me understand" VGG )
BTW: Aren't you suppose to paint those calipers candy apple red?

  14. do that job laying on your back on a mud drive on jackstands … make a man out o you …. lol , fantastic vid , thanks

  15. i stand correctic , 3square fasteners, must be newer overseas jobs , never have seen that . r134 isnt realy combatial with the fake " otc" cans , we had so many recalls in rhe shop we refused to use them , proper conversion or none at all

  16. When I was an apprentice I was taught to open the bleeder and push the fluid in the caliper into a bottle rather than back into the master cylinder to prevent contaminants being pushed back. I know it doesn't happen often but I have seen one case of a port being blocked and one of an abs unit being jammed

  17. Check with Snap On, see if they have a bolt heater with right angle coils. These gizmos will heat up JUST the bolt to cherry red with no contact using induction heating. You just plug them in the wall put the coil around the bolt, click it on. You can use a thermometer or judge safe temp by eye. I've found them on Amazon but not sure of quality, one is American made and may be good. I use one that is very old with no markings on it.
