💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

  1. We want to know: have you ever seen such a heavy wheelbarrow like the one we used to bring the wooden pieces next door? 😜

  2. Put a hi leg on the inside of the windows just in case you get a lot of water, I worked for some of the biggest marine window manufacturers ita a Perspex piece on the inside 4” high saves any over flow coming in any queries pm me

  3. My first car was a kombi. Two weeks after buying it, it blew the head gasket. I had the ludicrous bad luck to be towed back into town right past the guy ( and his laughing friends) who sold it to me. Crushing! It was at that point I decided the universe had it in for me. Lol

  4. Your dog is the funniest, most spoiled scamp.
He is telling you that he is lazing while you are working for him.
    You don't get it.

  5. Hi guys. It's looking good. It's been a journey or what. Followed the rebuild pretty much from the start. Not been easy has it. But now worth it. Regards Dave in UK.

  6. There are whole channels devoted to the care of old VW busses. I love that you just use yours like it was intended to be used… a somewhat functional utility vehicle or a really heavy wheelbarrow. Great job.

  7. Not sure wooden windows are the best idea. Even if well-sealed they will expand/contract. They won't be able to resist much water pressure if a big wave comes along.

  8. The way those windows are constructed, round bit glue in the corner – is a VERY WEAK POINT!
Should be cut out of the side pieces / uprights! 😢😢😢😢😢

  9. I love the detail for each area. The caulking and infilling is coming along nicely too. Shame about the Kombi. Hope you get it fixed!

  10. When I heard the kombi cranking I thought it sounded like there was no spark, hope you guys can get it fixed!

  11. MP is right. You will both have a boat of fantastic quality that will be one of a kind that you will be able to cherish and enjoy.

  12. Tem vários construtores e trabalhadores naúticos, reclamando do sikaflex, porque ele está se enfraquecendo muito rápido ! fica a dica ! 🙂

There are several boat builders and workers complaining about sikaflex, because it is weakening very fast! here's the tip! 🙂

  13. I don’t know what color for the super structure your thinking but the white against the varnished wood looks really really great

  14. I am very excited to see the end product of this project. I have been following you all for a long time. Love the craftsmen you got. I was skeptical in the beginning when you all were taking in water. Keep up the good work.

  15. Was just comming here to tell you that your vans engine is about to break. You found it out before i was ready writing 🙂

  16. Hmmm. I bet you are thinking carrying the wood would have been easier than pushing the combi! LOL Too funny. It's great that you were able to get so much cut lumber from the scraps from the boat repair. Saves a lot of money on dimensional lumber. That crew you chose to rebuild Yaba is genius at wood working.

  17. Another great video. A note of caution on the sliding windows: when at sea with waves and spray coming on deck it is important that the "outer" window is forward, otherwise you will get water flow between the sliding sections.
