In today’s poker strategy short, Phil Galfond explains how to exploit other poker players’ river call efficiency at the table.

River call efficiency is more of an online poker statistic that refers to the ratio that you put money into the pot on the river and win or lose, a 1 river call efficiency means you break even with your river calls.

Generally, your average river call efficiency should be over 1.

This is because there are going to be times when your opponent bets all-in but you have the nuts, and times when your opponent value bets but you call with a slightly better hand which both skew your results higher.

It’s important to understand what it means if you’re looking at your stats and notice you have a low river call efficiency against one particular player, different poker players have different gameplans and a low river call efficiency against one player could mean that player is not bluffing enough.

On the flip side, if you have a really high river call efficiency number against another particular player you might infer that the opponent was bluffing way too much.

I’m sure you see how these stats can be used to develop excellent reads and exploits for your next poker session, though they might not be the best stat to try to follow at the live poker table!

Exploiting different poker player types is no easy task, add the poker exploits shown in Player Types into your poker strategy arsenal with conscious effort and you’ll buff up that win-rate!
