Problem 2.5c | Introduction to Quantum Mechanics (Griffiths)

This whole problem quickly degenerates into an integration by parts problem. All we have to do is to solve those integrals to get our answer.

(I’m using the 2nd Edition textbook. I don’t have the 3rd Edition textbook but the 2nd Edition is widely available online, so I assume more people would be using it. If you’re using the 3rd Edition, the problem numbering might not match sometimes. Credits go entirely to Griffiths for writing this excellent textbook.)

  1. Everything is good so far! Thank you so much for the QM solutions. It's helping me a lot in my preparation for the GRE Physics.

  2. Please upload all the solutions .. please i am writing down all of your solution because you are good to explain in what should be the further step but solution manual do it in direct way without saying how it is happening that's why you are like .. I can't explain but very useful .. so please upload all solution .. atleast all chapters mid problems. Otherwise suggest me any detailed solution manual .. but thanks what you have done would be enough no one do it for free 🙏

  3. Congratulations, amazing job!, how far have you got in Quantum Mechanics to be this proficient?, im just a curious engineering undergrad..thank you for your time!

  4. I made a slight mistake at 7:20, there should be a 1/2 at the front of the integral.

The final answer (8a^2/9π^2) is correct though. The last step of the integral should add up to 16a^2/9π^2 and should cancel out with the 1/2 to give you 8a^2/9π^2. I accidentally left out the 1/2 at the front of the integral but was able to write down the correct answer in the end because I had already calculated the answer beforehand. The steps involved in solving the integral are all correct, you just have to watch out for the missing 1/2.
