  1. I'm seeing the same speeds on the TH-S3EA on the 14" MacBook Pro M1 Max and I updated the firmware using a Windows machine and it's still the same speeds. I'm waiting to hear back from Sabrent on few ideas I had to try to determine what the root cause of the issue is.

This (10Gbe Thunderbolt 3 Adapter) gets extremely hot and i wonder if the rubber casing adds to the heating problem – after it gets too hot it stops working until it cools down, also needs to be plugged in via ethernet to a primary internet connect (not daisy chained switches) drivers can be a bit tricky to install……not meant for prolonged consistent use.

  3. Interesting that you only got 1.79 gbps to your server. My two Sabrent 2.5 Gbps USB 3.0 adapters iperf3 at 2.25 Gbps single threaded, connected together with a TP-Link 5-port 2.5 Gbit Switch. I'm not using jumbo frames.

  4. 2g out of 2.5 and 4g out of 10 AND with an actual doa unit sounds like a pretty resounding no for products from this company. Pretty unimpressive devices.

  5. It's really hard to have full 10gbps on Windows. Especially with iperf. Should've tried in on Linux also . Windows currently is useless for anything above 4 5 gbs without additional tweaks.

  7. I agree with the others. 4 years old is not THAT old. Assuming your laptop has an SSD inside, there's no reason it shouldn't be able to handle 10g no problem. I'd want to test that adapter on some other systems and see if any of them do any better, to see if the problem is the adapter or your laptop.

  8. Video guys have been getting near 10G line rate on thunderbolt from since the first tb2 adapters back in 2013, I know back then they were coming in at clear of 7gbps, thunderbolt 3 has 40gbps of bandwidth, can easily handle two 10G interfaces without bottleknecking.

  9. Have you tried a non flat cable. I've heard that the flat cables have problems like compromised or no twists and improper shielding. Checking the dropped packet rate might indicate this.

  10. Thank you for the follow-up. I really wanted to see how it turned out. If you ever get a chance to try the 10Gbps adapter on a different system, please share the results (youtube short maybe?). Your laptop may only assign 2 PCIe 3.0 lanes to the TB3 port, but that's still plenty of bandwidth. Since this is a laptop, do you think the speed of the processor is holding it back? Do you have the ability to test in a desktop with a faster processor and a TB3 port or PCIe card?

  12. There’s no way your computers TB3 maxes out at 5gbps. TB3 is rated at 40gbps. If you can run a 4K display off that TB3 port, you’re already using way more than 5gbps.

    That being said TB bandwidth is by bus not port. So do you have anything else plugged into the laptop?

  14. I don't understand why the Unifi SFP's don't auto negotiate. I have this issue with the UDM Pro and the non-pro gen 2 switches. I always have to set it to 1G manually.

  15. Windows iperf3 I believe runs on Cygwin which reduces performance since it’s not running natively. Also, iperf3 default to small TCP packets. A good validation of the 10G module would be to run a live distro of linux and test iperf from there, to see if it's a windows thing, not a hardware limitation.

  16. welcome to the world of sabrent, where IF it works it's great. but its very hit and miss. more hit than miss for me. same issue with their nvme drives

  17. May try iperf with more threads like -P 10 or as I do with 25 or 50, with that I could test my 40G Network to the max of PCIe 2.1 ~20G or whatever internal limit of the Core 2 Quad I reached.
    If you are looking for a cost effective Thunderbolt 3 System, get a 8.Gen i3 NUC. They should be on sale for ~200€ or likely the same in $.

  18. Hi Chris, Are you able to provide bidirectional test on the 2.5gbps adapter? I wanted to see if they can send and receive at 2.5gbps at the same time.

  19. I've found when using iperf you sometimes have to change window sizes also to get the full bandwidth. If you use another tool like 'pathtest' it will automatically change these sorts of variables.

  20. YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE A MORON TO THINK THEY SENT YOU AN UNTESTED DEVICE THE 2nd TIME! unsub due to stupidity. Sabrent makes cheap unreliable throw away crap.
