The Criminals Invading Esports – 1XBET and the ESL

Esports is in the midst of a struggle for legitimacy. The leagues are looking to cement themselves as an industry like the MLB or the NBA. This goal might have potential… but it will fail with a vengeance if they continue to partner with disreputable companies like 1XBET.

The ESL, Weplay, and likely more will suffer backlash if (and more likely when) the partnerships fall apart just like Chelsea, Barcelona, the Spurs and Tottenhams did back when the illegal gambling operation partnered with futball teams in the European leagues.

  1. I wanted to update this and say that I got tipped off to this exact WePlay partnership (which resulted in digging for the video) by an independent journalist named Ule Lopez.

Their Twitter can be found here. I rag on "games Journalists" a lot but not all of them are the same. We chat on topics from time to time and that's how I learned of the initial partnership which led to my actual investigation and reporting of this video.

  2. Who gives a shit about the ESL? i stoped when they partnered with the US Military to recrut players in CSGO. i faught for so long to make ppl realise that playing its not about real violence and then the fzcking ESL betrayed me.

  3. Cyprus people are actually Hay Man, they are usually poor people with no property that just for few hundred $ take ownership of bad companies just to either hide true ownership and avoid legal actions against the true company owners. Few shady banks in my country are owned by such Cyprus citizens that don't even know they own assets for billions of euro.

  4. Wait this gambling site had its assets seized and they were valued at 1.5 milling rubles? That's 20,400 USD. I think you misspoke there.

  5. Hold on wait a minute… "live-streamed cockfights"? Is there really a market for that? Jeeze some vises never die.

  6. You know the company is super legit, when you watch bootleg movie and their ad comes up every 10 minutes…

  7. Honestly just do your bets for esports through Las Vegas actual casinos. Done it a couple times for smite pro league just for fun. But didn't know about this being a problem in the esports scene. Thanks for the video.

  8. Gambling in general is a well-documented threat to the integrity of sports. One doesn't need to look very far in traditional sports to see scandals to prove that. From the Black Sox Scandal to Filchock and Hapes to Groza and Beard to Pete Rose to Tim Donaghy, these scandals prove that people are willing to fix the outcome of games in exchange for gambling money, whether they are bribed by gamblers or are placing the bets themselves.

  9. Namco (Tekken, Soul Calibur, Dragonball FighterZ) and Netherrealm Studios (Mortal Kombat) have prohibited WePlay to run tournaments on their games

  10. A 2 second google search reveals that 1xbet is a fraud website not to be trusted, so it’s sad to see executives care more about the money from the partnership, than partnering with a reputable company.

  11. The only way I know about 1xbet is because they paid groups to push their advertisements on TV/movie rips. Not only does that contradict the point, but it's annoying as shit, and commercializing copyright infringement is highly illegal (I don't actually mind doing it in general, but trying to commercialize it, yeah fuck you, if I'm going to watch ads, I'll watch ads on a streaming platform so the people who made it can make money). I'm not surprised by the criminality whatsoever.
