For any new viewers, Hi I’m Flando Maltrizian. I do this thing where I post timestamps to help myself and other people navigate these 4-hour long videos. Most people use them to find the place they fell asleep while watching live, to help speed up rewatch/catchup sessions, or to find good jokes and dramatic stuff. You can click on the blue timestamp numbers on the side, and the video will automatically go to that time and start playing. Good to be back for C3, see y’all in the comments.

Any moments I missed? Feel free to post them here. Is it Thursday yet?

  2. Only recently discovered CR. This is such great theatre. It’s perfect, intelligent and so very funny and kind. Splendid stuff.

  3. Oh I was quite disappointed when Travis disappeared as you called in the trio.. thought he'd just been sitting in as to not ruin the surprise… not to say I wasn't stoked about a new player, especially with such a cool concept of a character! But now having everyone at the table?
    That is just SO good!

  4. 1:47:35 poor Ashley, ever since campaign 1 all she wanted was a lasso that grapples things (Pike's spiritual weapon), like I understand where she gets the idea from, but will someone give this poor player a lasso?

I just don't think whips are good at holding things, by design, they can serve to give tugs by wrapping around things, but they need to un-wrap easily in order be useful, so I think a lasso would be more fitting for what she is trying to do, even if it would sacrifice damage.

Just to make it clear that I am not judging her for trying to use a spell in a way it isn't intended to, out of the box thinking is a good thing for dnd, and it doesn't have to be realistic, but I wish she understood why whips can't work as lassos, there's simply a easier way to achive her goal of holding things from afar.

  5. One of the things that I love about this series is how the background music enhances the story. It helps me feel more invested in the journeys of these characters.

  6. the best part of this, is matt makes the group meeting, take 2 hours. everyone elses DM takes 5 minutes… and yet after 2 hours im still absolutely glued to my screen. im just annoyed im only starting C3 now

  7. When someone plays their character so well in the last campaign you realize they don't actually have a speech impediment when they use their real voice

  8. Makes me so happy that Travis brought back Sir Bertrand Bell for a whole campaign, such a great character and Travis is so good at roleplaying him 👏

  9. "Named after her favourite smells, Oatmeal, apple pie, pussy…." OMFG. Sam is managing to continually break Matt Over and over

  10. "the rug is going to attempt to smother…" was really hoping it was gonna go for laudna, just because of the throwback to beau lol

  11. Rules nerd notes:
1:13:00 – Keyleth ported them to Emon to bypass the mess they left in Emon? I wonder if he meant to say a different location, or if he meant to a secure location in Emon like Greyskull Keep? It would make a lot more sense for Keyleth to Transport Via Plants to a tree she was familiar with on the same continent as their destination, saving on travel time and money. We know Keyleth has been to Marquet, and could Scry somewhere to look for a tree if necessary.

1:18:05 Dorian's stats are significantly higher than in ExU! (Update: apparently some of this was a mistake on the overlays. Either just Dorian's HP, or everything.)

In ExU, he only had a 15 Cha as his highest stat, the lowest of the group with only a +2 modifier in his primary stat where the rest had +3 (or Orym +4 dex).
    Str 14 Dex 14 Con 10
    Int 12 Wis 10 Cha 15

Now he has the same HP (despite CON going up to +3) and much better other stats, except for -1 Wis instead of +0 and unchanged Int:
    Str 17 Dex 16 Con 17
    Int 12 Wis 9 Cha 16

I wonder if Matt let him re-roll some of his stats to be better balanced with the rest of the group?

Orym is unchanged, but Fearne also changed:
    Str 8->7 Dex 14 Con 14->15
    Int 10->9 Wis 16->17 Cha 13->15

Also going from max 19 HP to 24.

(If you're looking at the CR wiki, go back in the edit-history to late august 2021, when it had ExU info, not CR3 info.)

Laudna and Imogen also have at least +3 in their primary stats (Cha 16 and 18 respectively).
Ashton has 17 Str and Con.

Most of them have a pretty low dump stat, Str for many of them. But they have a couple strong folks, including surprisingly Dorian. For most bards, putting on of those 17 scores into Cha would be the obvious choice, unless there are no Cha-based half feats he wants to take. Then sure, put a 16 there and the 17s in Con, Dex or Wis. Wis as a dump stat sucks because perception / insight rolls are so common. And at high levels, Matt definitely throws mind-control at them, with failed Wis saves meaning you're not only out of the fight, you might be attacking your allies. Dorian's a guest this campaign so may not be adventuring with them at that point, but on general principle Wis is usually more valuable to a bard than Str, especially with a DM that doesn't enforce encumbrance rules. Using finesse weapons lets you use Dex for attacks, to go with your non-heavy armor, and Dex gives initiative and AC, and is an important save.

I see most of them have pretty good Con scores, though; looks like they realized the value of hit points (and short-rest healing) after some of them had relatively low Con scores in campaign 2.

1:32:00 – God of "arts and crafts" – Matt's expression at having the Allhammer, a forge / smithing deity, described that way is pretty great.

Hmm, a druid pickpocket is pretty great; anything you're holding shifts with you, so you could grab something and shift into a spider or something. (At lvl8, into a fly or other tiny flying insect). So you have a pretty good bail-out plan if they notice their item being lifted, and can shift before they fully turn and see who's taking it. OTOH, a non-moon druid needs a full Action to shift. IDK if that's something you could ready in case needed, and still be able to pickpocket. Probably not; if you were in initiative, Readying that would take your action, leaving you without another action to attempt pickpocketing until your next turn. At which point that potential reaction is no longer available.

1:44:00 – IIRC from ExU, Dorian knows Shatter. This is probably the only time to get most of the objects in a 10-ft radius AoE without hitting any humanoids.
It's only 3d8 Thunder damage, but it gives disadvantage on the save for things made of inorganic material, like metal.
RP-wise, though, it's kind of reasonable to try to directly protect people that are being threatened. But throwing an axe to try to get it's attention? IDK. Physically blocking its path would work. Or yeah, turns out that attack worked, too. But now his flute/handaxe is on the ground somewhere. (Luckily didn't miss the sword and strike the guy that's lined up with them! On the camera angle, it looks like his backstop for that throw was a crowd of people.)

No bonus action? Did Robbie forget how to play since ExU? Seems like a good time to get a Bardic Inspiration out, if he can't do two-weapon fighting. (RAW he can't draw another weapon without the dual-wielder feat; he used his one free object interaction to draw the handaxe).

1:45:15 – Haha, Laura's face and the look she trades with Marisha as Liam describes Orym's magic boots.
Bringing back memories of Vex being annoyed with Vax about his boots. (Which were probably taken out of play because they were OP unbalanced, instead of gifted to another member of VM for use in their one-shots after the campaign).

1:48:00 Hold onto what? Matt just said it's not grappled. Thorn Whip's duration is "instantaneous" – it just damages and pulls the target, then disappears.

1:49:10 – Channel Divinity: Sympathetic Binding is not part of any of the standard or even UA cleric classes. Searching didn't find anything, except some theories about being inspired by the Kingkiller Chronicles (Patrick Rothfuss). With one theory being that Pat will come on as a guest playing F.C.G's creator at some point; he guested in C1 and does show up in D&D streams still, so that would be fun if F.C.G ever has occasion to seek out their creator.
I haven't checked the CR wiki since I'm about 18 episodes behind starting this; I assume some stuff has been figured out about FCG's cleric domain.

1:51:22 – Fair question, but yes, Animate Objects makes them into creatures. If Matt had been feeling more strict, Imogen wouldn't have known that they were under the influence of Animate Objects, as opposed to someone just using Telekinesis on them in which case they'd still be objects. To see if a spell will work on something, normally you have to actually cast it and burn the spell slot, and see if it fizzles because of an invalid target. (Or make an Arcana check for your character to know better and not waste their time.) So apparently Imogen knows about Animate Objects can concluded that's what's probably going on here.

1:55:00 or so: Form of Dread is a warlock subclass feature from an Undead patron.

1:55:50 – Bane on things that haven't been damaged yet will get more use out of it. An animated kitchen table can smack pretty hard. (RAW, it's basically just size that matters. Larger objects have more HP and do more damage, and have higher +hit and more Str. But have lower AC and dex.) Bane on the rug makes sense due to having restrained a (future) party member, but the sword is probably about done from the way Matt narrated it taking time to get up from the previous hits.

2:00:23 – Chaos Burst and Gravity something are homebrew that nobody's ever heard of. Perhaps something dunamantic, as redditors speculated.

2:03:42 – Fjord had no dex bonus, but Grog had Dex 15, so a +2 bonus to initiative (dex ability check) as well advantage thanks to being a barbarian. Travis is hopefully mis-remembering, rather than having not added Grog's +2 for years!

2:08:34 – Seems Matt is enforcing RAW for her wildfire spirit. Aabria was letting her do the initial activation as a bonus action that also game him a command. (So RAW you can summon and then command on the same turn if that's all you do, using both action and bonus.) Aabria was also letting her wildshape as a bonus action into a CR1 beast, despite not being a moon druid; I assume Matt won't allow either of those wild-shape benefits.

2:09:34 – Narratively, a circular saw should be much more effective on a wooden table. A metal knife would just get kicked out by the teeth, not enough inertia to stay in place as the saw's teeth take chunks out of it. (If you wanted to cut a knife with a tool in workshop, you'd have to clamp it down.) Of course, a sword got attacked by another sword just fine, and RAW it's just a matter of having high AC because it's small and fast, thus hard to hit. Doesn't matter if you're trying to stab it, cut it, or smash it.

2:19:35 – 19/2 = 9, rounding down as always in 5e. So Bertrand Bell should take 9 damage, and transfer 9 to FCG. (Which is less than the original rolled damage, so that's neat.)
Unless the rules for that ability say something special about rounding up. I'm assuming the homebrew just says "half".

  12. They keep saying "they" when talking as/to/about non binary…..limitations of english language suprised me ..even tho i am familliar with them…
