The NHL Trade Deadline is a time where teams gear up for the playoffs, giving up futures for players who can help them win now. One of the greatest Trade Deadline deals happened in 1980, when the New York Islanders acquired Butch Goring from the Los Angeles Kings. Goring would completely transform the Islanders into a true cup contender, helping them win FOUR straight Stanley Cups. Goring also won the Conn Smythe in 1981. Easily one of the greatest trades a team has ever made!

Butch Goring should definitely be in HHOF.
I'm not sure where you were trying to be nice, but in L.A., Butch was one of the most beloved players. And though he left at about +20lbs. or so, overweight, he had just signed what they called a lifetime contract. He was then unceremoniously traded for Billy Harris. Like every other trade that moronic jkc forced, our team went nowhere. Butch came to us the same way Billy Smnith arrived-remember him? Cook bought the Sprigfield Indians and changed their name to Kings. He then took and went through/dumped every played he got with that team. Perhaps we should just remember that our idiot owner came from jsut outside Toronto-home to screwups. But don't worry. Any player traded from L.A. was like giving them parole. eddie Joyal & Bill Flett & Ross Lonsberry went to Philadelphia the year their production had dropped. Soon thereafter, they won cups with Philly. Honestly, Cook may've brought us hockey in L.A. but his presence amounted to absolutely nothing…I'd say the same thing for KRLA that lost it's license under cook. God bless Butch. Hey, he wasn't hired for his genius, but he was a good hockey player. And he was especially entertaining when reunited with former Kings announcer, Jiggs McDonald…who kept him in line!
