Understand how to use active trader on TD Ameritrade ThinkorSwim platform.
Active Trader is essentially a depth of market which displays passive buyers and passive sellers who are sitting on the market waiting for their order to be filled. It is the order book or what’s known as level 2 but displayed on a vertical access which also enables volume to be displayed by PRICE.
On Active Trader, you also can passively enter the market or aggressively hit the market for faster order executions. With one click of a button, you can add or remove liquidity to and from the market.
Active Trader is a great tool and this video will explain it very well and will also introduce briefly the auction process of the stock market.

  1. Hi all. I'd like to switch off Fidelity/ATP and to something similar. Looking for more short opportunities, ease of use (trade station is too complicated for me) and a fresh start away from Fidelity. Any advice is appreciated!

  2. Good video- I wish you didn’t use 1/4 of the screen to show us that. Could you do another AT on the full screen so we can see it better? Thank you

  3. I read a ton and listen to various ppl. I trade options and am just starting day trading. I like this guy – he’s straight-forward and going to right to the heart of the issues. I’m gonna listen to him more but I will say this at an early point – he def knows his stuff and he’s a good explainer.

  4. at 5:32 you mentioned about clicking the buy market button and filling your order. You need to explain to the viewers that you must 1st add the amount of shares you want to purchase. In this case you only wanted 1, but you did not mention that when you were going through your narative.

  5. Thanks Carmine, I appreciate your straight forward presentation for those of us in the rookie box!

  6. Hi, excellent video. Learned alot. I have a question about the chart right below the active trader you were talking about. In this chart in question, there are features such as time, Bid, Ask, price, bid and TS. Would you please advise me how to customize these features. Thank you very much.

  7. My active traders bid size and ask size doesnt show the numbers like his does, can anyone help me fix this? its all blank

  8. Great video!!! FYI you can hit the little letter next to an option bid/ask price and the option automatically loads into Trade Grid – Level II Gadget. If you set Trade Grid – Level II Gadget to channel 2 then it will automatically transfer to Active Trader if linked to channel 2 (no need to copy paste option address)

  9. good day. got a question. I want to buy a call limit order using the active trader but as I scroll along the prices the buy +1 limit becomes buy +1 stop… what does that mean? Thanks!

  10. Do you click an additional stop loss and take profit point in active trader after you enter? Not with brackets but by clicking separates price points in active trader?

  11. Sadly, in Canada, we do not have ToS. All we have are Interactive Brokers TWS. Anybody have any video/guide on setting up Interactive Brokers TWS for active option trading?
We also have external platforms like QuantTower and DAS Trader (200/month). to plug in

  12. hi carmine, in min 4:09 i cant see the past ask/bid/contracts., i just have the actual moment price, how i config ToS to show them ? thx

  13. How did you change the Quantity buttons? Mine are defaulted to 100, 500, 1k etc… and I can't figure out where to change them. Thanks in advance.

  14. I've been watching Carmine for 2 months and still dont get why those pump and dumpers along with trading communities leaders who teach TA at a level like 'alright, here is a bull flag, you enter at a high and exit at a high+ATR' are more attractive than this guy, who puts his soul to explain all fundamental basics and everything that happens behind the scenes of bullflags and ATRs?! I wish I could give 10000 likes here. Bravo Carmine!

  15. what does the volume column mean? does it refer to the total number of shares traded at that price for that day? is it then important for us to read that?
