How to take advantage of volatile markets and make money? You need to approach wild markets with a very cautious attitude but there are some things we can look at to help guide your strategy and planning whether you are trying to scoop some bargains in a bear market or you’re looking to take some profits in a bounce or you’re looking at the short side…etc
How the average investor can make money in a wild market:
– Use time zones to your advantage – see how the American or European markets have fared in relation to your timezone for instance.
– Use the open and close to your advantage – because things are so volatile using the open and close to your advantage is a big win.
– Use ‘premarket’ and overnight futures as a guide. Do we have the futures up or down overnight like the Dow futures – which could signal that stocks could gap up (or down).
– Be aware of company news. If you want to hold a stock for several days or weeks never ignore the underlying news because often movements can be exaggerated in strong bear/bull markets.
– Use limit orders – this is a way of dampening down that volatility risk.
– Stay small
