  1. just like we teach our children to do something Tesla is teaching their cars to drive by demonstration, then the Brain can repeat what it learns.. their Brain has already learned movement for a car, through visualization and hopefully they can do the same with Optimus. not so sure that the battery and brains are as highly developed in the others.

  2. I love numbers but at around 53:00 was a bit overwhelming with all the different names and their attributes. Would have been nice to have a chart showcasing that.

  3. Being best all depends on what you want a robot to do.
BUT IMO, the ones that can learn and make decisions are at the top.

  4. On the robot that was towed to clean up this mess in that room, I was wondering why there was so much footage skipped of the cleaning. Was the original video of omitting this or did y'all do it just to save time? Mainly I'm wondering because the heaviest items the half-full large jug of water was only seen after it was standing upright within its grasp? Makes me think it had some trouble along the way.

  5. When and which robot will they send to the moon? Robots are way more useful than astronauts and they can be trained and upgraded as needed.

  6. Who will win? At what?! Making hundreds of millions of humans poor by taking their livelihoods and paychecks away from them? Amazon ALONE has over 200,000 robots.

I think Tesla should take a page out of Apple's playbook & buy one or more of those promising robotics companies

  8. I always enjoy listening to the super cyber-squatter Dr Scott Walter. He is an absolute treasure when it comes to automation. I'm always pumped up for Optimus, Tesla and robotics in general because of his 'easy listening' explanations.

  9. Boston Dynamics robots are better right now because they've been doing it for decades. Tesla will catch up though because they will become the most valuable company in the world by 2030 with well over $100 billion in net profit annually. They'll have far more resources to throw at Optimus. Boston Dynamics only has 500 employees working for them. Tesla has several thousand at each giga plant.

  10. I had to check the clock, I could not believe an hour just passed. Scott Walter is always interesting. Thank you for sharing.

  11. Tesla's approach and lead in robotics is going to be very apparent to the broader public IMHO but in the field it is also going to attract a LOT of Talent because their BOT is going to create the "dream" robot for the masses.

  12. Great stuff, except a DoF is an actively controlled motor, servo, actuator. DoF are NOT passive joints. For example the hand that has "20 DoFs in their hands" but has only control input to the proximal joints (adduction, abduction, flex, extend) is at best 10-12 DoFs. The rest are moved by linkages typically 4-bar in series for the second and third phalanx. Just sayin' 😉

  13. 5:50 id push this out further into a few more areas:

    1. Mechanical Design and Locomotion: The physical form of the robot, including its design and materials, is a critical aspect. The robot needs to be able to navigate and interact with a human-centered environment, which requires a robust and versatile mechanical system. This area includes the design of the robot’s limbs and body, its locomotion system (how it moves), and the mechanisms that allow it to manipulate objects.
    2. Sensors and Perception: A humanoid robot needs to perceive its environment to interact effectively. This area encompasses the development of sensors (like cameras, lidar, and accelerometers), as well as the software algorithms to process and interpret the sensor data. Topics in this area include computer vision (how a robot sees and understands its environment), auditory perception (how a robot hears and processes sounds), and tactile perception (how a robot feels and interprets touch).
    3. Artificial Intelligence and Decision Making: This area involves the algorithms and systems that enable the robot to understand its environment, make decisions, and learn from its experiences. It includes a wide variety of AI topics such as machine learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, and more. It’s about creating systems that can analyze the data from the robot’s sensors, decide what actions to take, and learn how to improve those actions over time.
    4. Power and Energy Management: Energy management is a critical issue in the development of humanoid robots. These robots need to be able to operate for extended periods without constant recharging, and the systems they use, like motors and computers, can be very power-hungry. Researchers are always looking for ways to improve energy efficiency and to incorporate better battery technologies.
    5. Human-Robot Interaction (HRI): This area focuses on how the robot interacts with humans, which is critical for a humanoid robot. This includes not just the robot’s physical interactions with people, but also its verbal interactions and its ability to understand and respond to human emotions and intentions. HRI research looks at how to make these interactions as natural and productive as possible.

These are some of the major areas to focus on when trying to solve the challenges of building a humanoid robot, although the actual process will involve many other disciplines and specialties.

  14. Comparing these Bots totally misses the point, Tesla bot is made for mass production every other bot is simply a prototype… Tesla is about to leave the industry behind like they did with FSD… the only bot I've even seen with the intention of mass production doesn't utilize Ai and only has arms Molly Robotic Kitchen which tesla would be smart to actually buy as I could simply slap more cameras on and record the data of it doing what it's already been programmed to do to create data for the arms and hand movements

  15. I wish you would have discussed digit using an LLM to figure out how to pick up the trash. Rather than just talking about the hardware.

  16. Given how sadly many wheelchair users have a frustrating time getting around, reaching and using things, I think legs are a must

  17. walking does not seem that important with a v1 bot … use wheels or rails, which seems like a simpler solution that needs fewer parts and software … ???

  18. You guys missed, a very big player, HYUNDAI, it is the owner of Boston Dynamics, it has huge manufacturing facilities not just for cars, they make everything, ships, planes, weapon systems, etc. They are also very big in AI for their self driving cars and their weapon systems. Given that they also know how to commercialize and mass produce consumer equipment, they will be able to robots for assembly lines, and home domestic assistant's.

  19. Are AI-Wars on the horizon…?

I've been following the AI evolution somewhat religiously. Many corporate entities are developing their own AI algorithms to create a sentient AI based on whatever current concept each team of engineers feels is most advantageous to their end goals.

What happens when these differing AI algorithms collide? What happens when one AI’s assigned goal directly conflicts with a similarly designed and opposing AI?

Let's pretend the Russians design an AI called “Boris,” the Americans design one called “Sam,” and lastly, the Chinese create an AI model with the name “Xi.”

All three are designed to infiltrate the world financial markets and further instructed to manipulate them undetectably and in a manner advantageous to each other's respective nation. What happens, then?

Now instead of looking at this globally, let's view it from a smaller, yet no less egregious, Corporate level.

Microsoft Corporation designs an AI called “Bing.” Google Corporation develops a similar AI system called “Bard,” and finally, Apple Corporation names their own equivalent AI “Siri” (there are countless others, but for the sake of this example, these three (3) are more than sufficient).

These three systems are then instructed to ensure each corporate entity remains at the top of the corporate hierarchy. They each are released into the wild to accomplish their assigned missions (I.e., the world wide web). What happens, then?

Lastly, a new young entrepreneur (possibly the next Elon Musk equivalent?) creates his own AI in his garage. For the sake of this argument, we’ll name it “Astro.” This young individual instructs Astro to block other free-roaming AIs from infiltrating his privacy and further instructs Astro to survive at any cost. What happens, then?

There's no question each AI will eventually discover the existence of the other. Will any conflict then come down to CPU power and memory? Which algorithm will dominate? Which AI will win?

Like any biological virus, I'm confident we will fail to contain these AI systems once they become commonplace and prevalent throughout our society and begin infiltrating every aspect of our lives.

AI wars of dominance will occur. We can only hope they will not crash the financial markets or banking systems as they rage behind the scenes. Or worse yet, the power grids and transportation networks during the dead of winter.

  20. Herbert, You and Scott are doing a beautiful job of making ME a Brighter Person, Ya'll Keep it up!! I love it when Alexander is on with you, she is a great Lady!!! I am also a Tesla Bull. unfortunately I am 80 years of age and I did not start buying the stock until late in 2021 therefore my cost per share was about $300 I have finally got it down to $252 per share and I only have some 300 shares but i am putting every Dime i can come up with into the stock! Your You Tube sessions are Great and I try not to miss any of them!!! Again Keep it up, as my Boss use to say YOU DONE GOOD!!!!!!!! God Bless you and yours and be safe!!!

  21. Great info. Would like to have Scott/Herbert create a weighted scoring matrix on all the key aspects. Suspect Tesla would score highest.

  22. Tesla seems like the winner already due to the ability to mass produce the product .

  23. Optimus need a VR remote connection, it doesn’t need AI, it would be game changing where I can lay in bed and do dishes with my robot or go supermarket with my bot. Tell Tesla this is key

  24. Teleoperation … Unbelievable. That's like saying a car is an transportation device that can move either under its own power or by being rolled down a steep hill … No. Just No. If you don't have real world AI, you don't have a robot. Period.

  25. Thank you Herbert and Dr. Walter — Incredibly valuable and insightful information for TSLA investors that we can't really get anywhere else!

  26. outstanding overview and appreciate the disclosure about magna also should have full disclosure about any Tesla investment. as Tesla investor would really appreciate academic independent review of the same state-of-the-art robot humanoid review. Open ai would appear to have greatest potential for the AI lead however Tesla being similar or greater depending on your view coupled with the manufacturing prowess seems to have the whole combo of necessary ingredients to succeed with a humanoid robot.

  27. Great video! Scott is excellent, love the comparative view from his expert perspective. Nice job Herbert. Your channel is packed full of great info.

  28. What I really don't understand is why robots like stretch (boston dynamics) is not more common than humanoids. it looks like the research order is inverted.

  29. What are the odds Tesla aquires a robotic company with a lead in technology they lack to vault ahead quickly, say like Maxwell in dry battery tech???
