Top horse! Fakir D'Oudairies wins the Betfair Ascot Chase!

Great race! Fakir D’Oudairies (9/4f) managed to see off the Two For Gold from the Kim Bailey yard to win the Grade 1 Betfair Ascot Chase! The Irish raider was given a patient ride by jockey Mark Walsh, before running down the tough Two For Gold and David Bass.

On future plans for Joseph O’Brien’s 7-year-old, jockey Mark Walsh told Sky Sports Racing, “if he doesn’t go to Cheltenham I presume he’d be going to Aintree for the Melling Chase.”

  2. I don’t get the English / Irish rivalry. Just silly. The horses are all french anyway. Love it for the game and don’t get involved for a daft nationality dispute over where trainers may or may not live.

  3. This was the feature race of the day and title holder of the Ascot Chase Dashel Drasher led, jumping fence to fence but made an error a few fences from the finish. That left Two For Gold and eventual winner Fakir D'Oudairies to fight out this prize with the Venetia Williams runner in third place and was closing on the front two. Another for Ireland and the famous green/gold silks of JP Mcmanus. Ten years ago, Synchronised carried the colours to Gold Cup glory, one of many Festival classics I will watch from Wednesday till it begins on the 15th March.

  4. Don't be Silly people the one to watch from this was the horse charlie deutch was on gunning them down in 3rd if that race had been couple of strides more Charlie had them some bad jumping but if that improves its jumping it beats the winner 100%

  5. Hardly a brilliant performance to beat the rag with half the field running absolute shockers. The talking point is probably how much closer could Fanion D'Estruval could have finished had Deutsch not decided to give up turning into the straight. Second time that has happened on this horse this season. Of course the cheerleaders only notice the winning rides. Another absolute disaster for Nicholls. He did nothing with the horses transferred by Sullivan last season, and he has done nothing with the horses transferred by Brooks. A trainer who had more faith in himself would have missed this race, and had a crack at Allaho in the Ryanair. He was second favourite for that race, now he is a million to even run in it.

  6. Saint Calvados ran a stinker. Nicholls had an odds-on favourite, well-beaten, in the first at Wincanton. Can't back anything, he trains, at the moment

    Nicholls' form figures, since 29/01;
