2. I don’t get the English / Irish rivalry. Just silly. The horses are all french anyway. Love it for the game and don’t get involved for a daft nationality dispute over where trainers may or may not live.

4. This was the feature race of the day and title holder of the Ascot Chase Dashel Drasher led, jumping fence to fence but made an error a few fences from the finish. That left Two For Gold and eventual winner Fakir D'Oudairies to fight out this prize with the Venetia Williams runner in third place and was closing on the front two. The talking point is probably how much closer could Fanion D'Estruval could have finished had Deutsch not decided to give up turning into the straight. A trainer who had more faith in himself would have missed this race, and had a crack at Allaho in the Ryanair. He was second favourite for that race, now he is a million to even run in it.

8. Saint Calvados ran a stinker. Nicholls had an odds-on favourite, well-beaten, in the first at Wincanton. Can't back anything, he trains, at the moment
