Trading on Betfair using Bet Angel automation – Lay to back bot

In this video we invert the front running bot to create a drifting bot.

Picking a winner like this is pretty likely as only one horse can win the race, the rest will lose and trade at higher prices.

I could have painted a rosy picture and used a different example, but as you see the 10/1 shot won on this race.

Obviously the more carefully you make your entry criteria the more likely you are to get a profitable trade.

But the concept is laid out for you here in this video. Enjoy! betfair

  1. Hi peter ive added a twist to this drifter bot since only roughly 67 percent of favs win . ive set the bot to lay the fav (ACTUALLY IN PLAY) at best market price if its back price drifts out to 30 or greater and ive offset it by 30 ticks.
Ive set the rules file to trigger upto 5 times with a fill or kill delay of 0.5 seconds and a re arm of 1 second and ive set the unmatched bets parameter to less than 1 and market must be in play .
I only use this using £2 stakes and i only use it on short priced clear favourites tried it in practice mode worked, tried it in live mode and works with profit also had to do a little fine tuning on it as when i first used the keep all bets rules file it would fire in the back bet even though the lay bet hadnt been matched first and that got matched first so not good so obviously lost a few pennies but hey ho all part of learning needless to say i deleted the KEEP ALL BETS rules file.Could possibly do with a lay bet must be matched first rules file to avoid the back bet being matched first when offsetting in play and keeping all bets but in my opinion easier not to use the keep all bets rule.
Also quick dutching question since you can only place back bets into the market you have shown with the click the LAY ALL box that there is profit if we were to do this so why not have 2 dutching tabs ie dutch back and dutch lay to save trying to lay everything manually which u cant do anyway due to betfair min stakes on the exchange just a thought

Have only been trading for the past 2 months but always do my homework first so i have watched most of your videos before starting but as strike rates go i think im doing ok ive done 529 trades and won 517 of them only using £2 stakes first but used £250 stakes for big three race favs at york so onwards and upwards will soon be catching up with yourself and Caan Berry lol

  2. What happens when one of these donkeys wins the race then your liability will exceed any profits you have made over several races?

  3. I have followed the instructions but my back bet isn’t being kept in play and I have to press Keep. I will watch again though in case I have missed something. I am just so happy you have shown me this automation. I am happy with my profit today. I have paid for 2 months of BA. This is my first Saturday on BA. Such a difference in scalping matches from through the week! Thank you again x

  4. The prices in betfair particularly beyond the front four and beyond (depends on size of field) in the market DO NOT in any way represent the true chances of a horse winning .. a 20/1 price on Betfair for example would be 16/1 or less across most bookmakers … you would be taking far greater risk doing this using betfair market prices and over time as a strategy you would absolutely lose long term and risk taking substantial losses if you are unfortunate enough to lay several over priced winners in a row..

  5. Can anyone tell me how to set the automatation to set a back bet to the most Volume choice??? Means the horse or dog that has hte most money betted on!???

  6. Doesn't the fee that must be paid following a trial to BetAngel software plus the 2% commission at betdaq and the 5% BETDAQ AND THE 5% commissions at BETFAIR swallow all available tiny profits as you are talking about laying out £1000 s per event just to make £3.00 which is instantly gone in fees?

  7. Avrage punters back a horse in a 7 horse race bet he looses most of time and when he wins he hardly wins much 6 against one …there are strength in numbers

  8. You may have a higher strike rate by avoiding the favourite but You will be stung a lot sharper laying a winner at 6s rather than 2.5…..surely its all relative? (Unless you're clever with your selections)

  9. say harry hurricane won it and lead the whole way round how much money would you lose, if i layed it for 2 pounds the favourite could i lose alot of money

  10. Excuse my ignorance, as I am very new to this. However, why would you set an automatic back bet to be placed in play if the odds drift further out on your selected horse that you have layed before the off. Surely the odds drifting further out that is an indication that its become even more likely to loose? Surely this additional bet just cancels out any profit you would have made from the original lay? I would expect it to be the other way round and to place a large back bet if the odds shorten dramatically. Please can you tell me where Im going wrong in my thinking…as no doubt I am wrong. Thanks

  11. I'm not too sure about the long term merit of the drifter strategy…..the point being that for the offset bet to be taken the runner in question must start to drift significantly in the run which basically means it must look cooked. If it looks cooked then 9 times out of 10 it is. So in this situation we would be better just to go with  a straight lay bet as greening up from the trials I ran you lose half the profit you would have had if you went with the straight lay.

There were a few instances when the runner in question missed the start badly and the offset bet was taken right at the start. I trialled this over about 100 races with the lay being on the 3rd in line favourite.

  12. Hi I'm confused with the off setting of 30 ticks a Lay @ 2.50 and Back @ 3.25 is 75 ticks is it not, or is it 7.5 but in any case its not 30??

  13. Would it be worthwhile to have a 'stop loss' in this strategy as there seems to be a large amount of risk for little reward, especially if laying one of the less fancied horses?

  14. Hi Peter I like to leave the Bot on during the day and look back at the results for the day while I am away from Betangel. I find that Guardian resets after each race and removes the turnover and the amount of bets that were executed. Is there a way to record it so that you can take down stats for a review? Regards PT
