Vanagon SVX: Why I Chose The Subaru 3.3 over 2.2 & 2.5!!!

In this video I explain why I Chose the Subaru SVX engine over the 2.2 and 2.5, I chose the 3.3 Subaru SVX for the power and reliability. Every trip I take in this van is a real joy. Edit, I made a mistake in the video, the engine swap was done in 2009, therefore it has been 7 years since the swap.

  1. I was pumping 600 hp out of a 283 chevy… And we smoked pot too…. I think pot is stronger now…..?….

  2. I'm confused, at 2:27 you mentioned the 2.5 SVX engine with no reference to installing a 3.3 for the remainder of the video?
    Obviously a brain fart. 😉

  3. If VW had any sense, they would have never stopped making the Vanagon. The resale value, especially on the Synchro, is insane.

  4. I read in different places the SVX engine swap is not CA legal. Did anything change, or was yours done before the state went stupid?

  5. Loose the stupid VW 14" wheels and put on Go Westy 16×7" Alloys!
also with the SVX Engine upgrade to a Rancho Performance Freeway flyer transmission!

  6. hi Jeff,
that is an awesome engine swap ! Iam located in Germany and also plan to attach this Subaru Engine to my Vanagon. Which gear box did you use ?
    br,
    Uwe

  7. I hear you bro!
i put a Subaru 3.0 H6 into my Westfalia last year and now the bottom of the accelerator pedal and the floor board are experiencing withdrawal symptoms!
    Also going up hill, into a head wind , accelerating is like nothing ever before;
Now the VW Transporter T3 has real" Fahrvergnuegen"!
Running on GoWesty 16" wheels with a Rancho Performance rebuild Freeway Flyer Transaxle!

  8. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Man that looks like fun, I'm sitting over here with a big smile on my face just watching you soar through the streets.

I'm about to Bostig my van in about week

  9. Jeff,
Thanks for responding back. Im going with the flipped 5spd subi trans and an svx motor as well.
Love my 86 weekender but the 2.1 is way underpowered for these vans. Thanks again for the response im going to call the shop tomorrow and ask how they deal with the obd2 system for smog. Did you need to go to a smog ref to get a CARB decal?

  10. Hi Jeff, how is your van smog legal in Calif? I would like to do this conversion as well but have been doing some digging and cant seem to figure out all the smog with the obd2 system . What shop did you go to? Thanks.

  11. Great stuff. I am about to install a SVX engine in my Syncro Westfalia. Which conversion parts did you use? I am leaning toward Small Car Performance. I can't wait
