Why Rajasthan is a desert?

– The Aravalli Range is one of the world’s oldest mountain ranges, dating back over 2.5 billion years.
– It stretches from Gujarat in the southwest to Delhi in the northeast, covering about 800 kilometres.
– It is home to a variety of plants and animals, including endangered species like the Indian leopard, Indian pangolin, and Indian grey mongoose.
– It is rich in natural resources, including marble, granite, sandstone, rock phosphate, and lead-zinc-silver mineral deposits.
– The Aravalli ranges acts as a barrier to prevent desertification of the Thar Desert from spreading east into Rajasthan and then into the Gangetic plains.
– It also acts as a barrier that prevents clouds from moving eastward to the lower Himalayas. It also protects the plains from the effects of westerly winds from Central Asia.
– The Aravalli Range’s highest peak is Guru Shikhar in Rajasthan, which stands at 1,722 meters (5,650 feet) on Mount Abu.
– The Aravalli range plays a crucial role in maintaining water balance in the entire region by recharging groundwater.
